BBC is lying -British Police

[ nrt;tha;fpoik, 24 Vg;gpuy; 2007 ] [ Nahfuh[d; ]

Det Insp Paul Welton, of Humberside Police told the Reuters news agency on Sunday that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were not connected to the credit card thefts in the United Kingdom.

The latest statement by the police force has brushed aside lies beamed across the world by the BBC media network throughout Saturday.

BBC claimed that Tamils were involved in credit card fraud and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were behind all the credit card related crimes.

British police say that criminal elements from several communities are involved in credit card thefts and that no one community can be singled out.

Meanwhile, the BBC stopped taking telephone complaints on Sunday, as thousands of Tamils called in demanding an apology.

The media network's unfounded allegations have cost Tamil businesses several thousand pounds in revenues, according to latest reports.

Reliable sources say that Tamil businesses in the UK are planning to take the BBC to the courts demanding compensation for loss of business due to the unfounded allegations aired by the media station.

The BBC repeatedly broadcasted raciest views expressed by the Sinhala ambassador in London, while making no attempts to contact Tamil representatives.

Meanwhile, free media organizations have demanded for the resignation of three BBC journalists accused of being on the payroll of the Sri Lankan government.

Dear xxxxxxxx

Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'Breakfast' on 21 April.

We are sorry if you feel our coverage of the recent investigation into

petrol station credit card ?skimming? has been unfair to the Tamil

community.

We have been careful to make clear that the claims that the Liberation

Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were involved came from the Sri Lankan

government.

Equally we have made clear that Humberside police have not confirmed

this claim and quoted a Humberside police spokesman as saying: "Our

evidence does not suggest there is a definite link.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Regards

Damian Whyte

Dear Sir/Madam,

Re: News bulletin broadcasted and telecasted under the headline of ?involvement of the LTTE in credit card cloning?

Tamils living all over the world are disappointed about the quality of the subject mater as it was prepared with out any base, due care, caution and evidence to the source of this information. It is obvious that it?s a mud-slinging exercise carefully manipulated by the Sri Lankan government in order to discredit LTTE in the eyes of the international community. It is regret that the champions of the freedom of speech, freedom of expression and unbiased reporting agency have been out manoeuvred by the cunning diplomacy of the agent of Sri Lanka.

Over the past years the BBC has earned prestigious reputation for its unbiased stand in the controversial issues. It is regret that such yardstick has not been used to measure the depth of the truth in this particular matter.

We wonder whether the BBC also joined the bandwagon of the sinister propaganda program of the Sri Lankan government because in the resent times, when the human rights violations rocketed to alarming level in north and east, the BBC never made any attempt to bring those activities to the surface. The resent UNHCR, Amnesty International and other human Rights Agencies concerns about Sri Lankan atrocities has not been given any prominent coverage by the BBC. Nevertheless a trivial and isolated incident of this nature has been blown up for the viewers to form an opinion against Sri Lankan Tamils.

We kindly request the BBC to put its integrity and honesty to an accepted level of scrutiny because it was against the principal of natural justice. Since the Sri Lankan High Commission Official was given a right of audience the other side was denied the opportunity of been heard.

We trust the BBC will endeavour to address the issues raised herein and will take steps to relive the distress caused to the millions of Tamils in this aspect.

Yours faithfully

Rajan

Dear XXXXXXXXXXXX

Thank you for your recent e-mail regarding 'Breakfast' reports on 21 April.

I appreciate that you felt that the BBC News coverage of the police

investigation into a petrol station credit card scam was unfair to the Tamil

community in the UK and painted them in a negative light.

However, I must say that we have been careful to make clear that the claims that

the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were involved came from the Sri

Lankan government.

Equally we have made clear that Humberside police have not confirmed this claim

and quoted a Humberside police spokesman as saying: "Our evidence does not

suggest there is a definite link."

Nevertheless, I fully appreciate that you feel strongly about this matter.

Therefore please be assured that I have registered your comments on our audience

log. This is an internal document which will then be made available to members

of senior management at 'Breakfast' and across the whole of the BBC. Styles and

policies are continually reassessed according to feedback we receive from our

viewers.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact the BBC.
