The Rt. Hon. Boris Johnson MP

10 Downing Street

London SW1A 2AA

Dear Prime Minister,

Please accept our hearty congratulations on your overwhelming victory in the 2019 general election. The British Tamils Forum (BTF) notes with gratitude, that it was the Conservative Party that took the initiative for setting up an international investigation on the atrocity crimes committed in Sri Lanka during the conflict in 2009, when Rt. Hon. David Cameron was the Prime Minister.

We humbly request that under your premiership you will continue to gather momentum and put genuine, maximum effort to find a lasting peaceful solution for the victimised Tamils in Sri Lanka. Tamils feel Britain has a historical role and a moral obligation to find sustainable peace in Sri Lanka.

Tamils in the UK are grateful that the 2019 Conservative Party election manifesto had listed Sri Lanka among the conflict zones needing to achieve reconciliation, stability and justice.

Listed below are issues that need immediate attention:

·         continuing land grab, repeal of the draconian Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), enforced disappearances, political prisoners, protection to victims, witnesses and human rights defenders,

·         apply bilateral military and economic restrictions and calibrated sanctions for non-compliance as a means of impressing upon Sri Lanka the consequences for not meeting its international commitments,

·         lead the international community to adopt alternate UN processes including the establishment of a special international criminal tribunal,

·         implement a long-term political settlement with meaningful power sharing to satisfy the aspirations of Tamils in Sri Lanka.

Yours sincerely

V. Ravi Kumar

General Secretary
