குற்றச்சாட்டுகளை அடிப்படையாக வைத்து இலங்கையின் இராணுவதளபதிக்கு எதிராக தடைகளை விதிப்பது கவலைக்குரிய விடயம் என தெரிவித்துள்ள அமெரிக்காவிற்கான இலங்கை தூதுவர் ரொட்னி பெரேரா சர்வதேச சமூகத்தின் அனைத்து பொறுப்புணர்வு மிக்க நாடுகளாலும் ஆதரிக்கப்படும் இயற்கை நீதிக்கு இதுமுரணான விடயம் எனவும் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

இலங்கையை அதன் இறைமை பாதுகாப்பு தேசிய பெருமை ஆகியவற்றை பேண அனுமதிக்கும், அனைத்து நாடுகளுடனும் சமமாக நடக்கும் கௌரவமான அரசாங்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்துவதே இலங்கை ஜனாதிபதி கோத்தாபாய ராஜபக்சவின்; நோக்கம் என அமெரிக்காவிற்கான தூதுவர் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

<p>அமெரிக்கா தனது படையினர் குறித்து எப்படி பெருமிதம் கொள்கின்றதோ இலங்கையும் அவ்வாறே தனது படையினர் குறித்து பெருமிதம் அடைகின்றது என அவர் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

எங்கள் நாட்டிலும் யுத்த வீரர்கள் உள்ளனர் என தெரிவித்துள்ள ரொட்னி பெரேரா அமெரிக்கா உட்பட பல ஜனநாயக நாடுகளை சேர்ந்த படையினருக்கு எதிராக குற்றச்சாட்டுகள் சுமத்தப்படுகின்றன என சுட்டிக்காட்டியுள்ளதுடன் வெறுமனே குற்றச்சாட்டுகளிற்காக நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படுகின்றதா என கேள்வி எழுப்பியுள்ளார்.

எங்கள் யுத்த முயற்சிகள் ஹொலிவுட் திரைப்படங்களில் இடம்பிடிக்கவில்லை என தெரிவித்துள்ள தூதுவர் இலங்கையின் பாதுகாப்பு படையினர் ஜனநாயக ரீதியில் தெரிவு செய்யப்பட்ட அரசாங்கம் தங்களிற்கு வழங்கிய பணியை நிறைவேற்றி பயங்கரவாதிகளிடமிருந்து எங்களை விடுவித்தனர் எனவும் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.

இலங்கையின் வெளிவிவகார அமைச்சர் பிரதமர் ஆகியோரின் கருத்துக்களை நினைவுபடுத்தியுள்ள தூதுவர் அமெரிக்கா தனது தீர்மானத்தை மறுபரிசீலனை செய்யச்செய்வதற்காக இலங்கை இந்த விவகாரத்தில் தொடர்ந்தும் தீவிர ஈடுபாட்டை வெளிப்படுத்தும் என குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.

SL’s war effort didn’t result in Hollywood movies: SL envoy

 

Sri Lanka said its war effort did not result in Hollywood movies, but was proud of its security forces who completed the task assigned to them by a democratically elected administration and freed people from ruthless terrorism.

“Just as much as the US is proud of the men and women of their armed forces, so is Sri Lanka. We also have war heroes. Allegations are made against militaries of democratic countries including the US are actions taken on mere allegations,” Sri Lanka's Ambassador to the US, Rodney Perera said.

He said articulating a position on the appointment of the Army Commander of Sri Lanka, which is a sovereign decision by the Head of State, based on allegations, is regrettable and contrary to the principles of natural justice espoused by all responsible members of the international community.

The ambassador said this at the American Foreign Service Association Club in Washington D.C., to a distinguished gathering of the Serendipity Group, which included several former US Ambassadors and senior officials who served in Colombo.

He referred to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s vision "to establish an honourable governance that will allow Sri Lanka to maintain its sovereignty, security, national pride, and deal with all nations on equal terms.

The ambassador explained the strong democratic traditions of Sri Lanka including its utmost respect to democratic ideals; separation of powers; the multi-ethnic and multi-religious nature of the society. He went on to illustrate that the Sri Lankan culture is based on ancient civilization and that the form of governance the island nation had for thousands of years was drastically changed through colonialism.

He emphasised the statement by the Minister of Foreign Relations that, “Lt. Gen. Silva was one of the senior military officials who contributed significantly to liberate Sri Lanka from terrorism over a decade ago, and it is disappointing that a foreign government should question the prerogative of a democratically elected President to call upon persons of proven expertise to hold key positions on national security-related matters.”

The minister said this action unnecessarily complicates the US-Sri Lanka relationship and said

the designation of Lt. Gen. Silva is not based on independently verified information, but on the much disputed OISL Report of 2015 and other, unspecified, organizations. Sri Lanka’s position is that the United States should verify the authenticity of the sources of information. He also reiterated the sentiments of the Prime Minister’s statement on the inclusion of the family members of Lt. Gen. Silva: “Even though we are now in the 21st Century, even members of his family who have not been accused of any wrongdoing, have been subjected to a collective punishment reminiscent of the practice in medieval Europe.”

The ambassador the Sri Lankan Government will remain strongly engaged on this issue with the United States to have it review its decision.
