Political advisor and leader of the peace delegation for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Mr. Anton Balasingham, suddenly fell ill in Kilinochchi and is on his way to London, Voice of Tigers (VoT) reported in its evening broadcast, Sunday.

Mr. Balasingham and his wife Adele Balasingham left Kilinochchi Public Grounds in a Sri Lanka Airforce (SLAF) helicopter at 2pm Sunday, the VoT broadcast added.

He is expected to fly to London from Katunayake, Sunday night, according to the broadcast.

Residents of Kilinochchi, LTTE cadres and several LTTE commanders gave them a send-off at the public grounds, said VoT.[/face]

[face=Arial] The LTTE today morning informed the Norwegians, who are trying to broker peace in the country, that Balasingham needed "post transplant" medical treatment, the embassy said in a statement.
It said a helicopter of the Sri Lanka airforce brought Balasingham, 64, out of Kilinochchi, 330 kms north of Colombo.
Official sources said his helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing at an airbase in the north-central province due to bad weather and he was later flown to the international airport in a larger fixed-wing aircraft.
Balasingham will spend the night at a location near the airport before leaving the island Monday for London to consult his doctors, the sources said.
"Mr Balasingham will leave Sri Lanka as soon as possible, but he has expressed a desire that his absence should not prevent scheduled meetings to take place," the embassy statement said. [/face]
