According to the traitor Karuna 279 of 600 Karuna Group members, conscripts who were sent to fight against the Tigers, were killed in various battles against the Tigers. This 279 is the number he uses on his Verugal Massacre story each year.

Contrary to this claim by Karuna, a former Tiger officer who worked in the Headquarters ("Thalaimaich cheyalakam") said that there were around 1500 Karuna Group members and each of their personnel data were collected and stored in separate files.
