The foreign minister of Sri Lanka has confirmed that the support of United States of America was key to defeating the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in a war that ended with the massacre of at least 70,000 civilians. Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has asked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convert the Sampur Power Station in Trincomalee from a coal power plant to one powered by liquified natural gas (LNG).
