The warships – Admiral Tributs and Admiral Vinogradov are Udaloy-class anti-submarine guided-missile destroyers. Seven such destroyers are currently in service with the Russian Navy’s Northern and Pacific fleets. Today marks 32 years since the death of Annai Poopathy, a Tamil woman who fasted unto death in protest against the atrocities committed by Indian Peace Keeping Forces (IPKF). As member of the Navatkerny Mother's Front, Poopathy Kanapathipillai from Batticaloa, commenced a fast unto death on March 19, 1988 to protest the injustices and atrocities committed by the IPKF. She had called for an immediate ceasefire and peace talks between the IPKF and the LTTE. Her fast ended on April 19 with her death. Another Thenmaradchi trader shot and killed [TamilNet, April 17, 2006 08:11 GMT] Four gunmen riding in two motorbikes entered an electric shop located on A9 Road at Meesalai in Thenmaradchi and gunned down Mr. Ramalingam Sakilan, 30, the owner of the shop, around 11:30 a.m., Monday. Tamil traders have been targeted in Thenmaradchi by SLA operated gunmen in retaliation to the escalating Claymore attacks, civilian sources said.
