'இலங்கையின் கொலைக்களம்' ஆவணப்படம்: யூலை 15ம் திகதி அமெரிக்க கொங்கிரஸ் மண்டபத்தில் வெளியிட ஏற்பாடு!

பிரித்தானிய சனல் 4 தொலைக்காட்சி நிறுவனம் தயாரித்த 'இலங்கையின் கொலைக்களம்' ஆவணப்படம் எதிர்வரும் 15 ம் திகதி அமெரிக்க கொங்கிரஸ் மண்டபத்தில் வெளியிடப்பட உள்ளதாக செய்திகள் வெளியாகியுள்ளன.

எதிர்வரும் 15 ம் திகதி பிற்பகல் 3 மணிக்கு இடம்பெறவுள்ள இக்காட்சியைத் தொடர்ந்து இலங்கைப் போர்க்குற்றங்கள் தொடர்பான விவாதமொன்றும் இடம்பெறவுள்ளது. இதற்கான ஏற்பாடுகளை சர்வதேச மன்னிப்புச் சபை, சர்வதேச மனிதவுரிமைகள் கண்காணிப்பகம், சர்வதேச நெருக்கடிகளுக்கான அமைப்பு என்பன இணைந்து மேற்கொண்டுள்ளன.

அமெரிக்க கொங்கிரஸ் உறுப்பினரும் Tom Lantos மனித உரிமைகள் அமைப்பின் இணைத் தலைவருமான ஜிம் மக்கோவன் அவர்கள் இக்காணொளி பற்றிய அறிமுக உரையை நிகழ்த்த உள்ளார். காணொளியைத் தொடர்ந்து இடம்பெறும் விவாதத்தில், ஐ.நா நிபுணர்குழுவின் போர்க்குற்றச்சாட்டுகள் மற்றும் அமெரிக்காவின் கருத்துகள் உட்பட சிறிலங்காவின் பதில்கூறும் விடயத்தில் தற்போது மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டுவரும் முயற்சிகள் தொடர்பாக கருத்துப் பரிமாற்றங்கள் இடம்பெறவுள்ளது.

இக்காணொளியானது 2009 ம் ஆண்டு வன்னியுத்தத்தின்போது சிறிலங்காப் படைகளால் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட போர்க்குற்றங்கள் மற்றும் மனிதத்திற்கெதிரான குற்றங்கள் தொடர்பான நேரடி காட்சிப் பதிவுகளையும் நேரடி சாட்சியங்களையும் கொண்டு பிரித்தானிய சனல் 4 தொலைக்காட்சியால் தயாரிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. மேலும், இக்காணொளி பிரித்தானியாவில் பொதுமக்களின் பார்வைக்கு முதன்முறையாக வெளியிடப்பட்டபோது பொதுமக்கள், அரசியல்வாதிகள் மற்றும் ஊடகங்கள் மத்தியில் பெரும் அதிர்ச்சி அலைகளை எழுப்பியிருந்தது.

மேலும் ஜெனிவாவிலும் நியூயோர்க்கிலும் உள்ள ஐ.நா அவையில் இக்காணொளி வெளியானபோது இலங்கைப் படைகளால் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட போர்க்குற்றங்கள் தொடர்பாக விசாரணைகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்படவேண்டுமென்ற குரல்கள் சர்வதேச அரங்கில் மீண்டும் எதிரொலிக்கத் தொடங்கியமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

அமெரிக்க கொங்கிரஸின் பார்வையாளர் அரங்க மண்டபத்தில் எதிர்வரும் 15 ம் திகதி வெளியாகவுள்ள 'இலங்கையின் கொலைக்களம்' போர்க்குற்ற விசாரணைகள் தொடர்பாக சிறிலங்கா மீது அழுத்தங்களை மேலும் அதிகரிக்கும் என்றே நம்பப்படுகிறது.

நாடுகடந்த தமிழீழ அரசாங்கத்தின் பிரதிநிதிகளும் இவ் விவாதத்தில் கலந்துகொள்ள உள்ளதாக தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

Capitol Hill Screening of “Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields” Documentary

Co-Hosted by Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International-USA, the International Crisis Group, and Open Society Foundations

Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International-USA, the International Crisis Group, and Open Society Foundations invite you to the Capitol Visitors’ Center on Friday, July 15th, at 3pm, to view and discuss the harrowing documentary, “ Sri Lanka ’s Killing Fields.” First aired on British television in June, “Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields” captures, through live footage and extensive interviews with witnesses, the atrocities committed against civilians during the Sri Lankan Armed Forces’ final campaign to defeat the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in early 2009. The film was recently screened to wide acclaim at the United Nations in New York and Geneva , and has fueled renewed calls for an international response to these crimes.

U.S. Congressman Jim McGovern, Co-Chair of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, will give introductory remarks before the film screening. After the film, panelists will discuss ongoing efforts to further accountability in Sri Lanka , including the findings of the recent U.N. Panel of Experts report on war crimes in Sri Lanka , and the U.S. response to these developments.
