We will be hosting a free screening of Callum McRae's Bafta-winning documentary No Fire Zone: The Killing Fields of Sri Lanka Friday night.

This incredible film has an 8.2 rating on IMBD and is narrated by Rufus Sewell. It centres around some of the most horrific and (until now) covered-up war crimes and human rights abuses of modern times, namely those committed in the final months of the Sri Lankan civil war. The Sri Lankan government was estimated to have killed atleast 70,000 Tamils, and to this day, have denied responsibility.

The footage contained in the film documents the day to day horror of this war in a way almost never done before. The footage recorded by both the victims and perpetrators on mobile phones and small cameras is exposed for the first time, and is nothing less than direct evidence of war crimes, summary execution, torture and sexual violence.

The government and president responsible for these atrocities in still in power, and have not been held accountable for their actions. In fact, Sri Lanka is hosting the Commonwealth Conference CHOGM this Friday and the president is being honoured as Commonwealth Chair. This film plainly exposes their role in the horror and gives viewers the opportunity to stand up and say that someone has to be held accountable.
