INGOs leave Jaffna, ICRC UN Agencies stay

Several International Non Government Organizations (INGOs) are pulling out their staff from northern Jaffna peninsula following escalation of fighting between the Liberation Tigers and Sri Lankan government troops. Foreign staffs attached to Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), World Vision, Caritas, PARCK, Danish De-Minning Group and Sewa Lanka staffs left Jaffna by boat flying ICRC flag, sources at the Jaffna Secratariat said.

A convoy of vehicles carrying the INGO staffs left Jaffna town for Pt.Pedro, Saturday morning. They will travel to south of Sri Lanka by boat, sources said.

However, UN agencies and ICRC will continue their operations in Jaffna, the sources added
