Scribes, beware of Sarath Fonseka

(Lanka-e-News, 2008 Jan 05, 10.45 PM) The Army Commander sees the media as the major hindrance to the Government's aim of defeating terrorism in 2008.

When Prasanna Fonseka of Dinamia on January 02 asked him what the obstacles are that falls across accomplishing targets in 2008, the Army Commander Sarath Fonseka said, "Non-patriotic media are the biggest obstacle. Ninety nine percent of the media persons are patriots that fulfill their duties with responsibility. But unfortunately, there is a fraction of traitors and they are the biggest problem we have."

The Army Commander did not clearly define who these treacherous media and mediapersons, but we can guess who he meant and here we line up our assumption.

1. The media that do not use the words such as 'sacrificed lives' and 'killed.'

2. The media that report not only the victories of security forces but also the defeats of them.

3. The media that reveals underhand businesses between arms traders and defense officials

The media that reports the shameful human rights violations of security forces

4. The media that uncover the security forces personnel who remove the valuables of the houses of displaced people.

5. The media that insist the unruly officials be punished.

6. The media that uncovers the higher officials who get the domestic work done by the security forces other ranks.

7.

The media that emphasizes the vainness of this war.

8. The media that insist a new ceasefire is necessary.

9. The media that says the money utilized for this war can be used for the development of the country.

10. The media that urge to stop war and grant a solution to the ethnic problem.

Dear media colleagues, if you do not belong to any of these categories, you are a patriot.

If you can be categorized to one or several of the above categories, you have to be careful in the coming year.

Seemingly, the Army is waging war not only with LTTE.
