Common opposition candidate General Sarath Fonseka says Defense Secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa instructed a key ground commander in the north that all LTTE leaders must be killed and not allowed to surrender.

In an explosive interview with The Sunday Leader General Fonseka the then Army Commander said he had no information communicated to him in the final days of the war that three key LTTE leaders had opted to surrender to Sri Lanka’s armed forces as the battle drew to a bloody finish.

Fonseka charged that communications were instead confined between the LTTE leaders, Norway, various foreign parties, Basil Rajapaksa, Member of Parliament and the powerful senior adviser to the President and such information was never conveyed to him as he supervised the final stages of the war. “Later, I learnt that Basil had conveyed this information to the Defense Secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa – who in turn spoke with Brigadier Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army’s 58th Division, giving orders not to accommodate any LTTE leaders attempting surrender and that “they must all be killed.”

General Fonseka explained how on the night of May 17th this year desperate efforts of three senior LTTE leaders trapped in the war zone to save their lives failed as they were instead shot dead as they prepared to surrender to government forces.

Defense Secretary’s declaration that he kept silent despite knowing who killed and attacked the media is a very serious ominous crime

Lanka-e-News 05.Dec.2009 9.00PM) Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse's announcement to the media that he was aware of who was behind the murder of Lasantha wickremetunge and the attacks on the media in the recent past, and that he kept silent because he had to save the Army Commanders, has come under heavy fire from the legal circles who point out this suppression is tantamount to a crime under the penal code for concealing information of a crime and is tantamount to aiding and abetting it.

The Defense Secretary made these enunciations when he gave an interview to a National weekend newspaper last week.

Around half of them have been brought into the city of Vavuniya., where, some heavily injured, they have been interned in prison camps run by the army and allied paramilitaries. They are all under general suspiscion of being LTTE members and are being subjected to systematic torture, rape and shootings, especially the young men and women.

During 2001, Sri Lanka saw a marked increase in allegations of rape in custody, particularly by the army, police and navy. Most incidents occurred in the context of the armed conflict between the security forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Among the victims are many internally displaced women. Amnesty International is submitting this report to the new government, and the Committee for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, which is due to consider Sri Lanka's third and fourth reports on 28 January 2002.

"..On average, a Tamil woman is raped by members of the Sri Lankan security forces every two weeks. The real number is inevitably higher since many cases are unreported. Your Excellency,

Please Protect Democracy and Rule of Law & Proper Justice System in Sri Lanka.

For a very long time there was and is no democracy, rule of law, justice system in Sri Lanka. Due to the DRACONIAN Emergency Law & PTA for decades have given wide powers to the Armed forces and the Police to get away from the crimes against humanity. The justice system also failed to work independently. Journalist who voiced against these crimes were killed or threatened. More than 30 Media personnel were killed and no one got punished. Most of the Journalists have fled the country. It is a shame and disgrace to a democratic country. I hope and trust the your great country will change the situation in Sri Lanka.

Tamils all over the world [90 millions] and Human rights Activists all over the world are thankful to Channel 4 and Times of UK for their outstanding, excellent investigative journalism on Sri Lanka for exposing the WAR CRIMES committed by the Sri Lankan Forces. I earnesly urge the MEDIA all over the world to expose these Crimes to the world.

All these days the Sri Lankan Government played dirty tactics and fooled the UN, IC blaming the LTTE. As the LTTE factor is no more the Sri Lankan government cannot get away from the WAR CRIMES. I hope and trust the UN will do justice to the Tamils at least at this last moment. If UN fails this time also Tamils will feel betrayed and will never forgive the UN. Tamils all over the world [90 millions] and Human rights Activists will never rest until JUSTICE IS DELIVERED TO THE TAMILS IN SRI LANKA.

Thank you ALL.

Yours truly,

Sri Lanka rejects Dublin tribunal

The judgments of the ‘Permanent People’s Tribunal on Sri Lanka’ will do nothing to further permanent peace efforts in Sri Lanka, but pose a serious threat to the country’s stability, a statement by the Sri Lankan government this evening said.

The government further stated that the timing is designed to influence the forthcoming presidential elections on Jan 26, suggesting a degree of political motivation adding that ‘there is nothing to suggest the ‘tribunal’ will be conducted in a fair or representative fashion and its agenda, highly suspicious’.

“We strongly condemn any unaccountable organization, whether it purports to be a quasi-legal entity or not, irresponsibly distorting events and seeking to selectively pass judgment from afar,” the government statement said.

The statement went on to claim that the members of the tribunal should be helping Sri Lanka unite and move on at the end of a terrible conflict, not continue to stoke it.
