கீர்த்தி தென்னகோனுக்கு எதிராக களனி பல்கலைக்கழகம் ஒழுக்காற்று விசாரணை

நீதியானதும் சுதந்திரமானதுமான தேர்தலுக்கான இயக்கத்தின் (கபே) நிறைவேற்றுப் பணிப்பாளர் கீர்த்தி தென்னகோனுக்கு எதிராக களனி பல்கலைக்ககழகம் ஒழுக்காற்று விசாரணையை ஆரம்பித்துள்ளதாக அவ்வமைப்பு தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் தென்னகோன் வகிக்கும் பதவியிலிருந்து நீக்குவதற்கும் அவரின் சிவில் சமூக செயற்பாடுகளை அச்சுறுத்தவும் இவ்விசாரணை ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாக கபே அமைப்பின் சட்ட விவகார பணிப்பாளர் ஹரிந்திர பானகல தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

அண்மையில் வடக்கில் நடைபெற்ற தேர்தல்களில் ஊழல் நடந்ததாக தென்னகோன் தெரிவித்த பின்னர் இந்நடவடிக்கை மேற்கொள்ளப்படுவதாகவும் பானகல கூறியுள்ளார்.

உள்ளூராட்சி தேர்தல் முடிவடைந்து 5 நாட்களின் பின்னர் கீர்த்தி தென்னகோனுக்கு பல்கலைக்ககழக உபவேந்தனர் சரத் அமுனுகம, கடிதமொன்றை அனுப்பியுள்ளதாகவும் கபே ஊடக இணைப்பாளராக தென்னகோன் மேற்கொண்ட நடவடிக்கைகளுக்கு எதிராக விசாரணை நடைபெறும் என அதில் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டதாகவும் பானகல தெரிவித்தார்.

கபே சட்டபூர்வமான அமைப்பு. இலங்கையில் கோடுகள் மூலம் நீதி கிடைக்காது. வெளிநாட்டு தூதுவராலயங்கள் மூலம் மேலிடங்களுக்கு அழுத்தம் கொடுக்கவேண்டும். தேர்தல் முடிந்துவிட்டதால் தேர்தல் ஆணையாளரின் அதிகாரம் மட்டுபடுத்தபட்டிருக்கும்.

The administration of the University of Kelaniya has begun a new disciplinary inquiry against the Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon, Executive Director of Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE.)

Sending a letter five days after the end of the Local Government Elections Vice Chancellor of the university Sarath Amunugama has stated that ‘a new disciplinary inquiry will be held against Tennakoon for action conducted as the media coordinator for CaFFE.”

Tennakoon was stripped of his post at the University on October 2008 for exposing the election law violations and other irregularities which occurred during the Eastern Provincial Council election. The first officer in charge of the disciplinary inquiry resigned on the day he was to conclude the inquiry. However during the second inquiry the officials released Tennakoon. However the university administration refused to accept this decision and has decided to begin a new inquiry 33 months after the CaFFE Director was stripped of his post.

Tennakoon’s case is not an isolated incident and many reports, including the US State Department and several reports by Human Rights organizations, state that academic freedom is rapidly being restricted in Sri Lanka.

CaFFE published 6 separate reports on the recently held Local Government elections; it specifically focused on the intimidation, abuse of state resources, and the mass scale poll card snatching in Kilinochchi. CaFFE states that the new disciplinary inquiry was initiated to remove Tennakoon from his position and thus to intimidate civil society activists from the academia.

Dear Madam/Sir,

I would like to express my solidarity with CaFFE and its Director in what seems to be a revenge act. This is just another evidence of deteriorating democracy in Sri Lanka in which all citizens are being held hostage.

The international community must be notified of these coward acts that violates the core of democracy, the elections.

Please continue of your good and justice will prevail.
