An Open Letter to the Members of the Security Council, the United Nations and the

International Community:

You are our only hope.

On behalf of over 160,000 civilians still in the area, we are making this final appeal to the the

international community to stop the slaughter of Tamil civilians in the so-called ʻsafe zoneʼ.

As we write this appeal there is a build up of Sri Lanka Armed Forces in the areas surrounding

the so-called ʻsafe zoneʼ and an offensive via land, sea, and air is only a few hours away.

On Sunday 26 April, the Sri Lanka Air Force bombed the Valiaganmadam village, the only

village with sea access, 39 times and on Saturday 25 April there were at least 25 attacks which

killed and injured hundreds.

Based on their previous experiences over the past three months TRO officials in the ʻsafe zoneʼ

have predicted that if the expected offensive goes forward there will be more than 10,000

casualties as the area is densely populated and there is no cover from bombs, shells, and

bullets.

The UN, US, India, EU, UK, Russia and China must all put pressure on the Government of Sri

Lanka to immediately stop all military attacks and enter into an immediate, UN monitored cease

fire.

Tamils Rehabilitation Organization (TRO), a national NGO, is the only NGO still operating

in the so-called ʻsafe zoneʼ on the East coast of Sri Lanka.

மாதிரி கடிதம்

Dear Hon. Members of the United Nations,

The terrible news that the Govt. of Sri Lanka is blocking entry of the UN humanitarian mission despite the growing number of casualties which, according to the UN, is estimated at 6,500 civilian deaths since Jan. 2009, is devastating. Massive onslaughts are predicted in the coming days by sea and air. We fervently hope that this isn't true and the UN has the power to enforce it's mission against the will of a dictatorial regime. It goes against the very conscience of humanity and the UN Charter which calls for 'respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples'.

Treblinka, Belzec and Auschwitz were all concentration camps first and then became extermination camps. A 100,000 Tamils wounded with no medicine, no food, and dying as we speak, are extremely vulnerable to torture, rape and abduction by the Armed forces in unmonitored internment camps. The Govt. has acknowledged that they are overwhelmed and now are blocking the UN special emergency humanitarian mission. The UN, embodiment of all that is true and noble, can and must stand up to Sri Lanka and it's allies such as China, Japan, Iran and Libya.

The SL govt., hiding behind it's carefully orchestrated media campaign, can now move in to eliminate a large number of youth, the essence of the Tamil population, during the screening process and reduce the rest to abject poverty and helplessness. The conflict in Sri Lanka has built up to a horrendous crisis as the Govt. of Sri Lanka started it’s assault with the full force of its military and heavy weaponry on the Tamil civilians who have been herded into the “safe zone”. A genocidal war has never been curbed by issuing statements.UN must act now, on humanitarian grounds, without a moments delay.

The Tamil demand for a separate state is predicated on the conviction that as an identifiable people with a defined territory, they are entitled to self-determination under international law. The Sri Lankan Govt. has been carrying on these mass killings, decimating the Tamil population in conducted pogroms since 1958, as the Supreme Court disregards tens of thousands of fundamental rights violation cases. Unless the UN and the International community can guarantee a legislature for sharing Legislative, Judicial and Fiscal powers equally with a Federal State for Tamils in the Northeast, they will continue their struggle as they lack trust in the political system.

The International community has maintained a heartless silence, despite ongoing protests around the globe since Feb. 2009. Washington lobbyists are making out quite well from the war. In January, Patton Boggs, was retained by the Embassy of Sri Lanka, with “a fixed fee of $35,000 per month, to “provide guidance and counsel to the Embassy of Sri Lanka regarding its relations with the Executive and Legislative Branches of the U.S. Government.” In other words, to sanitize the government’s conduct of the war and make it look good with the Obama administration.

It is speculated that UN Sec. Gen. Ban Ki Moon is empathetic toward the Sri Lankan Govt. and the Chinese Govt., which intends to secure a harbor in the South of Sri Lanka. We hope this isn't true and that the UN will stand up to it's moral responsibility to save civilian lives regardless of their ethnicity. Please don't turn a blind eye to this hate war consuming innocent lives, especially those of children and mothers, hour by hour.

The hour to help is now. It may be gone tomorrow.

Thank you for your help to the Sri Lankan Tamils in the past,

Sincerely,

Hon. Benita Ferrero-Waldner.

Commissioner for External Affairs, EU.

Your Excellency :

Re: S.O.S, Please prevent BLOOD BATH ON BEACH in Vanni, Sri Lanka which is unfolding as I write this letter to you

I am taking this opportunity to inform you very highly disturbing news reaching me that, 160,000 people who are in the war zone are facing blood bath on beach from the Sri Lankan forces in the small sliver of land in Mulaitivu.

UN estimates that, 6,500 people including hundreds of children were killed more than 14,000 injured since January 20th 2009 due to indiscriminate and massive fire power used by the Sri Lankan forces on the hundreds of thousands of civilians in the small sliver land in Mulaitivu which is considered as ‘safe zone’ in Northern Sri Lanka.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/26/world/as...3&ref=world

We are in the civilized world cannot allow Sri Lanka to commit these worst crimes against humanity and allow ourselves to witness a human catastrophe and crisis in Vanni. The Humanitarian crisis which is unfolding for the Tamil civilians in Vanni is worse than RWANDA . On April 25th and 26th, Saturday and Sunday alone, Sri Lankan Supersonic fighter planes dropped lethal bombs on these civilians at least 64 times killed in hundreds wounded hundreds more.

I earnestly urge you to do your utmost to prevent this Tamils’ blood bath on the beach as well as another RWANDA REDUX in SRI LANKA , by pushing both warring parties in Sri Lanka to agree for an immediate and permanent cease fire. Please I beg you to stop this slaughter of fellow human being in en mass in Vanni.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours truly,
