GSP+: WELL DONE BUT LET'S KEEP UP THE BOYCOTTING PRESSURE!

Act Now would like to thank all its supporters for singing petitions, joining in on campaign events and supporting our efforts to bring those that are responsible for war crimes to justice and restoring human rights in Sri Lanka.

All your efforts in writing and lobbying the EU to deprive Sri Lanka of the GSP+ tax concession looks as if it will pay off!

The EU have said that the only way they can keep the Concession for another six-months is if they relax their Emergency Laws further still and release political detainees (including we presume General Fonseka). They have until the 1st July to respond.

However for reasons only known to themselves Government spokesmen have immediately attacked the conditions as 'imperialist' (yawn) and insulting. Perhaps they FEAR Fonseka will immediately run to the UN's new Advisory 'War Crimes' Panel if released? Whatever their motives it looks as if they will pay dearly for their stubbornness.

Whether ultimately successful or not we need to strike while the iron is hot and increase the application of economic pressure upon Sri Lanka.

BOYCOTT PICKET - Sunday 4TH July - Oxford Street 12.00 pm

Act now has successfully run a boycott campaign for over a year now, throughout the bitter cold winter. The campaign has distributed hundreds of thousands of leaflets and targeted 11 different cities in the UK, stretching from Exeter in the South West to as far a Scotland and has linked up with other organisations around the Globe to form a Global campaign. Recently other UK and Global organisations have started to recognising the need to fight an Economic War with Sri Lanka, we hope therefore to see a much expanded Boycotting campaign in due course.

This weekended we will continue our boycott campaign by meeting outside GAP in Oxford Street at 12.00pm on the 4th July and in Brighton outside the Gap store at the same time. The Oxford store is not the 'flagship' store we have picketed previously. This other GAP is on 223-225 Oxford Street (50 yards to the right outside Oxford Circus tube). If you would like to join us at either of the locations please contact Graham for London or Tim for Brighton. The next National event will be held later in the month so any groups outside London who wish to join in please contact us and we will send you a campaigning pack.
