திரு. கந்தையா ஈஸ்வரன் அவர்களின் முதலாம் ஆண்டு நினைவு கூறலும் "அறிவியல் நோக்கில் 'இலங்கையின் காலவரிசைப்படி நிகழ்வுகளை பதிவு செய்த பண்டைய இலங்கை நூல்களில் [நாளாகமம்களில்]' ஒரு பார்வை" யும்




முடிக்கப்படாத வரலாற்றுப் புத்தகமான "இலங்கை வரலாறு" எனது மறைந்த நண்பரும், அர்ப்பணிப்புள்ள சுயாதீன ஆராய்ச்சியாளரும் மற்றும் கட்டிட பொறியியலாளருமான திரு. கந்தையா ஈஸ்வரனின் வாழ்நாள் படைப்பாகும். அவர் இதற்காக பல நாட்களையும் மணித்தியாலங்களையும் செலவழித்து, உலகம் முழுவதும் இருந்து அரிய நூல்கள், ஆவணங்கள், சான்றுகள் என்பவற்றைச் சேகரித்து, 10–12 ஆண்டுகள் மிகுந்த ஈடுபாட்டுடன் இதை எழுதியவர் ஆவார்.



நாங்கள் இருவரும் யாழ்ப்பாண மத்திய கல்லூரியிலும் பேராதனைப் பல்கலைக்கழக பொறியியல் பீடத்திலும் இணைந்து கல்வி பயின்றோம். புராணக் கதைகள் மற்றும் இதிகாசங்களின் வரலாறுகளின் கண்ணோட்டத்தைத் தவிர்த்து, வரலாற்று உண்மை, தொல்லியல், அறிவியல் ஆதாரங்கள் ஆகியவற்றின் அடிப்படையில் இலங்கையின் உண்மையான வரலாற்றை வெளிக்கொணர்தலே அவரது மூல நோக்கமாக இருந்தது.



2024ம் ஆண்டு ஜூன் 15ம் நாள், கனடா ஸ்கார்பரோவில் அவர் திடீரென இயற்கை எய்தியபோது, ஏற்கனவே ஏழு அத்தியாயங்களை முடித்திருந்தார். அதில் 110 பக்கங்களைக் கொண்ட அத்தியாயம் 2: “இலங்கை நாளாகமம்” மிக முக்கியமானதாகும். இந்த அத்தியாயத்தில், தீபவம்சம், மகாவம்சம், மற்றும் இராசவலிய ஆகியவற்றின் உண்மை மற்றும் பிழைகள், நேர்த்தியான ஒப்பீடு, மற்றும் வரலாற்று அடித்தளங்களை வைத்து ஆராயப்படுகிறது.



அவரது கருத்து மற்றும் எழுத்து பாணியை முழுமையாக தமிழில் அப்படியே கொண்டு வருவதுடன், மேலும் பல தரவுகளைச் அல்லது விளக்கங்களைச் சேர்த்து விரிவுபடுத்திய தமிழாக்கத்தை அவரது முதல் ஆண்டு நினைவு நாளில் (15.06.2025) இருந்து, அவருக்கான பணிவான அஞ்சலியாக, 120 க்கு மேற்பட்ட பாகங்களில், ஒழுங்கான கால இடைவெளியில், பதிவிட உள்ளேன்.



இந்த பணிவான முயற்சி, இலங்கையின் சிக்கலான, பல்லின வரலாற்றை நேர்மையுடனும் துணிச்சலுடனும் வெளிச்சம் போட்டுக் காட்ட பாடுபட்ட ஒரு அர்ப்பணிப்புள்ள அறிஞரான எனது மறைந்த நண்பருக்கு ஒரு உண்மையான அஞ்சலியாக அமையும் என்று நம்புகிறேன்.

In Loving Memory of Civil Engineer, Mr. Kandiah Easwaran (15.06.2025) & "A look at 'Lanka chronicles' from a scientific perspective"



The unfinished historical book "History of Sri Lanka" was the life’s work of my late friend, Mr. Kandiah Easwaran, a civil engineer by profession and a dedicated independent researcher. He spent nearly 10 to 12 years compiling this comprehensive work, drawing from numerous rare references gathered from both Sri Lanka and across the world.



Mr. Easwaran and I were classmates at Jaffna Central College and later at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. His aim was to write a historically accurate account of Sri Lanka — not through the lens of mythical puranas and epics, but through real historical facts and critical inquiry.



By the time of his sudden passing on 15th June 2024, in Scarborough, Canada, he had completed seven chapters of the book. His analysis challenged long-held beliefs based on Sinhala Buddhist chronicles such as the Dipavamsa, Mahavamsa, Culavamsa, and Rajavaliya — evaluating them against archaeological, historical, and scientific evidence.



As a tribute on his first death anniversary (15th June 2025), I have translated Chapter 2 of his manuscript, which consists of 110 pages, titled “Ceylon Chronicle”, into Tamil. The chapter examines the truth and falsity of these chronicles by comparing their narratives, internal inconsistencies, and factual basis. The focus is especially on the period from the mythical arrival of Vijaya up to King Mahasena, as described in Dipavamsa, Mahavamsa, and Rajavaliya.



While preserving Mr. Kandiah Easwaran’s original writing, I have also expanded it with additional verified facts and references, resulting in more than 120 parts, which will begin to be posted as a humble tribute to him starting on his first anniversary (15.06.2025)



I hope this humble effort stands as a sincere tribute to my late friend — a committed scholar who strove to illuminate the complex, multi-ethnic history of Sri Lanka with integrity and courage.
