* LTTE launches another artillery attack on the Vavuniya Air Force base

Sept 09, Vavuniya: The LTTE has launched another artillery attack on the Vavniya Air Force base this evening. Vavuniya police said that two artillery attacks were aimed between 4:00 and 4:30 p.m.

Security forcers have launched retaliatory attacks. The extent of destruction caused by the attacks has not yet known.

At a press conference held in Colombo this morning, Defence Spokesman, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that 24 deaths were reported due to the attacks which took place at the Air Force base in Vavuniya early hours of today. He further stated that 10 out of the deceased were LTTE carders.

According to the Minister, LTTE have launched the air attacks around 3:28 this morning and the Sri Lankan Air Force succeeded in destroying the LTTE aircraft in retaliatory attacks at around 3:52 a.m.

The LTTE had launched artillery attacks on the Air Force base simultaneously, but security forced had successfully held back the aggressions.

Sources in Vavuniya say that day to day lives of the people in the area were also disrupted during the day due to the attacks.
