An Eelam sympathizer shouted slogans hailing LTTE Leader Prabhakaran and hurled a wooden object at India's Central government Home Minister P. Chidambaram, who was addressing an election rally on Sunday in Karaikudi, a town of Tamil Nadu.

The man, identified as Ramu, caused a flutter when he rushed to the dais when Minister Chidambaram was addressing an election meeting. He slammed the wooden dais with some object, shouted slogans in support of Prabhakaran and demanded that the war in Sri Lanka be stopped, police said. Ramu was immediately whisked away by police.

Union Minister P Chidambaram's comments on Sri Lankan Tamil issue have sparked fury many a times in Tamilnadu, where the support for Eelam Tamils are growing in recent times and expected to be a deciding factor in the election, said the Tamil National news reporter from Tamilnadu. He further noted the anti Chidambaram posters sprung up in Chennai, a few days back.

On Monday, Chidambaram claimed the 48 hours ceasefire in Sri Lanka as a success of India's foreign policy. He said "though the ceasefire is a small progress, it can be seen as an important success of India's foreign policy as the Sri Lankan government had announced it following our constant pressure for a ceasefire."

"Ceasefire can be implemented only if both the sides agreed. Hence, the LTTE should accept the truce offer made by the Sri Lankan Government and immediately announce that it was halting the war," he said.

Meantime according to a report, the Defence Secretary Gothabaya Rajapakse when asked by Derana TV about the 48 hours ceasefire has scoffed at it and had said “whatever the pressure may be we will continue the war.”

The Sri Lankan Health and Nutrition Minister Nimal Sripala de Silva accepted in parliament that Indian Government’s cooperation and support is significant to go this far in the war. LTTE has called for humanitarian ceasefire many times after Sri Lanka arbitrarily broke the international truce and started the war on Tamils.

The LTTE in a statement issued on Monday called the Sri Lankan announcement of restricting military operations for two days as”eyewash" and a "political drama" to create an impression of engagement on false premises.

Condemning the move as aimed at "deceiving the International Community and the Tamil people", the LTTE said the Sri Lanka Army was continuing indiscriminate shelling and gunfire on civilians.

The LTTE statement categorically stated that the Tigers were calling for a politically and militarily meaningful ceasefire with humanitarian considerations.

சிவகங்கை தொகுதியில் மீண்டும் போட்டியிடும் ப.சிதம்பரம் பிரசாரத்தைத் தொடங்கி விட்டார். காரைக்குடி உள்ளிட்ட பல்வேறு பகுதிகளில் அவர் பல்வேறு கூட்டங்களில் கலந்து கொண்டு வருகிறார்.

காரைக்குடி அருகே சிவகங்கை மாவட்ட காங்கிரஸ் மகளிர் அணி மாநாடு நடைபெற்றது. இதில் மத்திய உள்துறை அமைச்சர் ப.சிதம்பரம் கலந்து கொண்டு பேசினார்.

அப்போது, பெரியார் நகரைச் சேர்ந்த சாயல்ராம் என்கிற ராமு (35) திடீரென எழுந்து இலங்கை பிரச்சனைக்கு முடிவு என்ன, இலங்கை தமிழர்களுக்கு பதில் சொல் என கோஷம் போட்டார்.

மேலும் உலக தமிழர்களின் தலைவன், விடுதலைப்புலிகள் தலைவர் பிரபாகரன் வாழ்க என கோஷம் போட்டார். அத்தோடு நில்லாமல், சிதம்பரத்தை நோக்கி மரக் கட்டை ஒன்றையும் வீசினார். ஆனால் அது சிதம்பரம் மீது படவில்லை.

இதை எதிர்பாராத போலீசார் மற்றும் கட்சி நிர்வாகிகள் அதிர்ச்சி அடைந்தனர். உடனடியாக சாயல்ராமை வளைத்துப் பிடித்து காவல் நிலையம் கொண்டு சென்றனர். காரைக்குடி வடக்கு காவல் நிலைய போலீஸார் சாயல்ராம் மீது வழக்குப் பதிவு செய்துள்ளனர்.

அவரை மன்னித்து விட்டு விடும்படி ப.சிதம்பரம் போலீஸாரை கேட்டுக் கொண்டுள்ளார். இருப்பினும் பிடிபட்ட நபரிடம் போலீஸார் தீவிர விசாரணை நடத்தி வருகின்றனர்.

முன்னதாக நேற்று நடந்த கூட்டம் ஒன்றில் ப.சிதம்பரம் பேசுகையில், இலங்கையில் அமைதி நீடிக்க வேண்டுமானால், போர் நிறுத்தம் நீடிக்க வேண்டுமானால் இரு தரப்பும் ஒருங்கிணைந்து செயல்பட வேண்டும் என்றார்.

மேலும், தேர்தலுக்குப் பின்னர் பாமகவை மத்திய அமைச்சரவையில் சேர்த்துக் கொள்ள காங்கிரஸ் தயங்காது என்றும் சிதம்பரம் கூறினார்.

இதுகுறித்து அவர் கூறுகையில், டாக்டர் ராமதாஸ் தேர்தலுக்கு தேர்தல் அணி மாறுவது இயல்பு. இந்த அவரது கொள்கையை நான் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள மாட்டேன் என்கிற போதிலும் கூட, அவரது மகன் மீண்டும் மத்திய அமைச்சராவதை காங்கிரஸ் தாராளமாக வரவேற்கும் என்பதையும் சொல்லிக் கொள்ள விரும்புகிறேன் என்றார்.
