சிங்களத்திற்கு எதிராக போர்க்குற்றம் உட்பட மனித உரிமைகள் குற்றச்சாட்டுக்கள் வலுப்பெறும் வேளையில் காணமல் போன ஊடகவியளாரின் சார்பாக அமைப்புக்களும் அவரது மனைவியும் கூடிய அழுத்தம் கொடுத்துவருகிறார்கள்.

UN intervention' to find Prageeth

Five prominent media rights organizations has written to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, calling on the U.N. to intervene in the case of journalist Prageeth Eknelygoda.

The letter notes, his wife, Sandhya Eknelygoda, has been asking the Sri Lankan government for any information about his fate.

“She has been given no information from any person in the government. Eknelygoda’s disappearance and his wife’s efforts on his behalf have been widely reported in Sri Lankan and international media”, says the letter.

Handed over letter to the UN

The letter by media organisations aims to draw attention of the General secretary to the plight of the wife of Prageeth.

On January 24, the anniversary of Eknelygoda’s disappearance, his wife personally handed over a letter addressed to you requesting assistance from the United Nations to U.N. Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sri Lanka Neil Buhne.

The letter was signed by representatives of the Cartoonists Rights Network International, the Committee to Protect Journalists, International Media Support, Reporters Without Borders, and the International Federation of Journalists.

Wife in Geneva

U.N. spokesman Martin Nesirky told a press conference in New York on 18th of February that the letter is now being reviewed.

The media organisations asks for a response to the letter.

The media organisations say that they are prepared to assist the United Nations in pursuing this case.

In an effort to draw attention to the dissppearence of her husband, Sandhya Eknaligoda has traveled to Geneva to take part in lobbying human rights organisations during the UN Human Rights Commission hearings on Sri Lanka.

காணாமல் போயுள்ள ஊடகவியலாளர் பிரகீத் ஏக்னலிகொட விவகாரத்தில் ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் அவை தலையிட்டு நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டுமென ஐந்து முன்னணி ஊடக உரிமை அமைப்புகள் ஐ.நா பொதுச்செயலாளர் பான் கீ மூனுக்கு கடிதம் எழுதியுள்ளன.

அனைத்துலக கார்ட்டூனிஸ்ட் வலையமைப்பின்

பிரதிநிதிகள் ஆகிய ஊடக அமைப்புகள் பான் கீ மூனுக்கு அனுப்பியுள்ள கடிதத்தில் கையெழுத்திட்டுள்ளன.

ஐ.நா பொதுச்செயலாளரை இதுவிடயத்தில் கவனம் செலுத்த வைக்கும் நோக்கத்தின் அடிப்படையிலேயே இக்கடிதம் ஊடக அமைப்புகளால் அனுப்பப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இக்கடிதத்தில் மேலும் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாவது,

பிரகீத் ஏக்னலிகொட பற்றிய தகவல்களைத் தருமாறு அவரது துணைவி சந்தியா ஏக்னலிகொட சிறிலங்கா அரசாங்கத்தைக் கேட்டுள்ளார். அரசாங்கம் இதுவரை எந்தவொரு தகவலையும் வழங்கவில்லை. ஏக்னலிகொட காணாமல் போன சம்பவமும், அவரைத் தேடும் துணைவியின் முயற்சிகளும் சிறிலங்கா மற்றும் அனைத்துலக ஊடகங்களில் பரந்த அளவில் பேசப்பட்டுள்ளது.

ஊடக அமைப்புக்களால் அனுப்பப்பட்ட கடிதம் தமக்கு கிடைக்கப்பெற்றதாக பெப்ரவரி 18ஆம் நாள் நியூயோர்க்கில் நடைபெற்ற ஊடகர் மாநாட்டில் ஐ.நா பேச்சாளர் Martin Nesirky தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

தம்மால் அனுப்பி வைக்கப்பட்ட கடிதத்திற்கான பதிலைக் கேட்டுள்ளதோடு, ஊடகவியலாளர் பிரகீத் ஏக்னலிகொட விவகாரத்தில் ஐ.நாவிற்கு உதவத் தாம் தயாராக இருப்பதாகவும் ஊடக அமைப்புகள் தெரிவித்துள்ளன.

இதேவேளை, ஐ.நா மனித உரிமைகள் பேரவையில் சிறிலங்கா தொடர்பான விவாதங்களின் போது, மனித உரிமை அமைப்புகள் மத்தியில் தனது கணவர் காணாமல் போயுள்ளமை தொடர்பான கவனயீர்ப்பினை முன்னெடுப்பதற்காக, பிரகீத் ஏக்னலிகொடவின் துணைவி சந்தியா ஜெனீவாவிற்கு பயணம் மேற்கொண்டுள்ளதாகக் கூறப்படுகின்றது.
