Your Holiness,

Tamils around the world are extremely disappointed and sad to hear that the UN alleged war criminal Sri Lankan president Rajapaksa is scheduled to meet your holiness this week.

Sri Lankan Army and Navy for which President Rajapaksa is head of command, killed more than 40,000 innocent Tamil civilians by indiscriminate shelling and bombings into the government declared 'no fire zone'.

President Mahinda Rajapakse who is alleged to have committed war crimes and crimes against humanity by the UN panel of experts report; as Commander in Chief of the security forces.

Channel4TV media of the UK consequently produced two documentaries (Channel 4 documentary programme, killingfields of SriLanka, investigative documentary won many awards and nominated for nobel price)

which seem to vindicate the finding of the UN report. Permanent People’s Tribunal [PPT} (successor to the Bertrand Russell Tribunal) on Sri-Lanka too found the regime and its security forces guilty of war crimes and that the charge of genocide has to be further investigated in the light of evidence of withholding food, medicine and deliberate targeting of government declared safety zones.

It has been 3 years since the war ended, Sri Lankan government has not taken any steps to address the accountability and have not brought a single person to justice. According to Wikileaks, the 'order to kill' the thousands of surrendered LTTE carders came from the president himself.

Bishop of Mannar, Rev Joseph Rayappu who is a Tamil Catholic priest was threaten by the army and government officials for speaking out the truth about the killings/disappearance of thousands of people.

Paragraph 30 of the UN panel report said in part, ….Elements in the Government encouraged or in some cases sponsored episodes of anti-Tamil violence in 1977, 1979, 1981 and 1983. This violence culminated in the 1983 anti-Tamil attacks, which were the most extensive. Sinhalese mobs were transported in Government buses and used official voter registration lists to identify and target Tamils. Thousands of deaths resulted, together with large-scale displacement, destruction of Tamil property and migration of Tamils abroad.

The current Sri Lankan president Rajapaksa has gone to extreme level of intolerance towards other religions other than Buddhism.

If one can order to kill thousands of people, with the hope of wash away his/her sins by visiting 'Vatican' will not hold up justice in this world.

Respectfully yours,
