Normally all you get after falling for a prank is a sore ego and sprinkle of humiliation.

However, one lucky woman ended up with a £25,000 BMW saloon.

Tianna Marsh from Auckland in New Zealand had spotted the fake advert for a free BMW on the front page of the New Zealand Herald.

It turned out to be a double bluff allowing her to handover her 15-year-old Nissan Avenir in return for the black car advertised.

Ms Marsh spoke of her experience: ‘We thought why not be spontaneous and give it a go.

‘We completely thought it wasn’t real. We thought we could go and have a look anyway, we’d be kicking ourselves if we didn’t.

‘[The security guard] had no clue what was going on either… they gave nothing away whatsoever, it made it all the more nerve-wracking for me and my friend Amy.’

BMW spokesman Ed Finn said of the prank: ‘The ad was intentionally vague and definitely appeared too good to be true, but in this case we wanted to turn the tables and reward the first person who was willing to take the chance.’

The dealership are now displaying her old car in their window with the plan of auctioning it off to raise money for a disabled children’s charity, GoBabyGo.
