Colombo, 16 December, (Asiantribune.com): Six Sri Lankan Air Force personnel are now undergoing a training program at Chandigarh in India, in preparation for the country’s latest purchase of MiG 27 jet fighter planes for its small air force.

Indian newspapers have reported that the SLAF personnel are currently attending an electrical first line course for MiG 27 flip wings ground attack planes the country purchased from Ukraine recently.

The group who started their course last October 14 would finish by January 5 2007 the reports said. When the program is over under the agreements with the Indian government, a third batch is expected to start training at the Indian Air Force Training Center at Chandigarh.

The Times of India said the Sri Lankan Air Force team during 1999-2000 received a basic education about flying fighter air craft in Pakistan. Now it has changed over to India.

Marumalarchchi Dravida Munnetra Kazagam (MDMK) leader Gopalaswamy Vaiko Naidu , the rabble rouser, who is a partner in the ruling coalition of India has already told Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh that India should not give any kind of training to the Sri Lanka Air Force since it attacks, his political ally the LTTE.

Indian intelligence elements were angry that the Sri Lanka Air Force personnel then were trained in Pakistan. But when they are trained in India, ironically some elements are angry over that too, analysts say.

Intelligence elements in India allege that the Pakistan spy service ISI is linked with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and working hard to destroy India’s geo-political supremacy in South Asia.

On the other hand, MDMK and some other small Tamil parties who are caste based are working hard with the LTTE, to help achieve its separatist policy, which India considers a threat to India.
