Canadian/US Tax money funding genocide in SriLanka

Sri Lankan Government has applied for $1.9 billion dollars from IMF. The war budget last year was $1.6 billion. So the money that is going to be borrowed from IMF is going to be spent on war. In other words, tax payer’s money is going to fund a genocidal war. The IMF mandate is to promote economy not to fund war especially a genocidal war. The Human right watch in a letter to IMF has stated why IMF shouldn’t give the money to SriLanka:

The decision would be made within next two weeks. Each government has a percentage of the votes in the IMF. The western countries such as US, Canada, UK, and Germany etc have more than 50%. So if all these countries work together we can stop the IMF funding the SriLankan genocidal war. On the other hand general public in all the donor countries will not support this since everyone of them have economic issues and the money that is given to IMF could be put to better use domestically.

Each of these countries has considerable Tamil population and is aware of the genocide that is going on in SriLanka. These don’t include other countries such as Malaysia, South Africa, and Singapore etc. Some countries have laws that prohibit them from participating or funding a government that is carrying out genocide. US are one of them:

"Declaratory judgment that a failure of the United States to oppose Sri Lanka’s pending $1.9 billion IMF loan application would constitute a violation of 22 U.S.C. 262d,"A Tamil organization has filed a lawsuit in District of Columbia to stop it. Lawyers in other countries should look into their law to see if there is any legal way to stop the IMF bailout.

Tamils in all the European countries should lobby hard in the coming week for the countries to vote against the IMF.

6. Lobby IMF itself pointing that giving the money to SriLanka is going to damage their credibility as SriLankan government is going to turn around and spend it on killing Tamils.
