இறுதிவரை தனது ஊடகப் பணிக்காக தன்னை அர்ப்பணித்த ரூபன் எம்மிடம் இப்போ இல்லை

யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் நேற்று இயற்கையெய்திய யாழ்ப்பாணத்தின் இளம் ஊடகவியலாளரான 32 வயதான செல்வரத்தினம் ரூபனின் புகழுடல் இன்று அராலி பூநாவோடை மயானத்தில் தகனம் செய்யப்பட்டது. அராலி மத்தி வட்டுக்கோட்டையில் அவரது வாசஸ்தலத்தில் வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த அவரது புகழுடல் மக்களின் அஞ்சலிக்காக வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த பின்னர் அராலி பூநாவோடை இந்து மயானத்திற்கு எடுத்துச் செல்லப்பட்டது. குடாநாட்டைச் சேர்ந்த நூற்றுக் கணக்கான பொதுமக்கள் மற்றும் ஊடகவிலாளர்கள் இந்த நிகழ்வில் கலந்து கொண்டிருந்தனர்.

யாழ்ப்பாணம் தினக்குரல் பத்திரிகையின் உதவி ஆசிரியராக நீண்ட காலமாக பணியாற்றி வந்த செல்வரத்தினம் ரூபன் யாழ் போதனா வைத்தியசாலையில் உடல் நல சீரீன்மை காரணமாக அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்த நிலையில் உயிரிழந்தார். இறக்கும் போது அவருக்கு வயது 32.

பத்திதாசன் என்ற பெயரில் நீண்டகட்டுரைகளை ரூபன் எழுதி வந்திருந்தார். யாழ்க்குடாநாட்டில் ஆட்கடத்தல்கள் கொலைகள் என்பன இடம்பெற்றிருந்த நிலையில் பல ஊடகவியலாளர்கள் ஊடகப் பணியிலிருந்து விலகியும் நாட்டை விட்டு வெளியேறியும் உள்ள நிலையில் இறுதிவரை தனது ஊடகப் பணிக்காக தன்னை அர்ப்பணித்த ஊடகவிலாளர்களில் செல்வரத்தினம் ரூபனும் ஒருவராவார். இவர் யாழ் பல்கலைக்கழக மாணவரும் ஆவார்.

Selvaratnam Roopan, sub-editor of Tamil daily ‘Yarl Thinakural’ and a journalist who dedicated his entire life to his vocation and in creating political awareness and responsibility among the residents of Jaffna peninsula, passed away Sunday evening at Jaffna Teaching Hospital, due to undiagnosed illness. 32-year-old Roopan had been in the forefront in rescuing thousands of people caught in the clashes in Ma’ndaitheevu in the islets of Jaffna in 2006 and in admitting the injured among them in the hospitals in Jaffna. Roopan rendered great service by writing articles in Yarl Thinakural creating political awareness among the people of Jaffna peninsula under his pseudonym ‘Sakthi Thaasan’. Media organizations including North Ceylon Journalists Association have issued messages of condolence on the premature death of Roopan.

Roopan was a native of Central Araali in Vaddukkoadai and had served in Yarl Thinakural for a long time as its sub-editor.

He was one of the editorial team of Yarl Thinakural which worked hard in bringing out the daily without delay braving the risks of working during continuously imposed curfew hours.

The articles he wrote enlightening the people of Tamil Nationalism and political awareness as Sakthi Thasan were very much welcomed by the readers.

Remaining a bachelor he was an indefatigable journalist fully dedicated to his vocation.

Roopan was well-known for his unswerving principles and his readiness to help people in distress even at the risk of his own life as a journalist with a cause.
