REMEMBERING THE 1983 HOLOCAUST OF TAMILS IN SRI LANKA

Tamil Australians of Sri Lankan origin are gathering in Martin Place ( George Street end, Sydney) on Saturday the 24th of July 2010, from 11 am – 2 pm, to reflect on the atrocities many of them had to go through 27 years ago in Sri Lanka. Many of these Tamil Australians are in Sydney today, because of the unfortunate experience they all had to go through in their motherland then.

Tamil Australians in Sydney have been observing this day every year since 1983. A slow and systematic genocide of Tamils continues in Sri Lanka as the international community is reluctant to intervene. Tamils in Sydney are organising this event in public to make awareness, among the fellow Australians about the plight of their kith and kin left behind in their motherland and seek their solidarity to save these Tamils from this genocide.

ETA & AFTA jointly would like to invite you to join us at Martin Place at anytime between 11am – 2 pm convenient to you and show your solidarity with the Tamil Australians in their resolve to help their brethren to live in peace with dignity

Black July - Remembering Silenced Voices

We remember the 3000 Tamil lives that perished; the 150,000 rendered homeless; as a result of the state backed anti - Tamil pogrom in the island of Sri Lanka .

We remember the victims of July 1983; the unspeakable tragedies endured by them; each innocent, but for the crime of being born Tamil.

We remember the victims of today; those left without recourse to law or aid...

...and finally, we remember that hope for the helpless lies in the strength of our voices.
