Sri Lankan authorities ban Lanka eNews

CPJ has called on the United Nations and the diplomatic community to intervene and investigate the apparent targeting of the website.

"We call on the appeals court to overturn this order and allow Lanka eNews to continue to publish in Sri Lanka" said CPJ Deputy Director Robert Mahoney. "This suspension is the Sri Lankan authorities' latest effort to silence an independent news outlet."

Subject : Sri Lankan authorities ban Lanka eNews

Dear Madam/Sir,

Thank you for being the vigilante on press freedom in democratic Sri Lanka. Certainly Sri Lanka has a long way away from true democracy in which freedom of expression is paramount.

I would like to thank you for contacting UN and diplomatic community on this latest nail on press freedom by the Sri Lankan authority. But, it seems the international community could do more in helping press freedom. Only a true freedom of speech will do a solid foundation of thriving democracy in Sri Lanka.

Please continue to push for press freedom.

Sincerely,
