Singhalese youth who obtained LTTE training commits suicide while in detention (LeN- 2007 Feb. 27, 5.15 pm) It is being reported that a Singhalese youth who was detained on suspect of receiving arms training from the LTTE has committed suicide by hanging himself. The youth who committed suicide in the fourth floor of the Crimes Investigation Departments headquarters has been identified as G. Chandrasekara from Aranayake. It is also being reported that he was arrested in November last year in Walachchenai for receiving arms training in Batticaloa. LTTE terrorists launched a mortar attack targeting VIP air movement carrying Minister of Disaster Management and Human Rights Mahinda Samarasinghe along with few foreign diplomats around 9 this morning. Defense sources said that the mortars were launched as the two helicopters landed at the Webber stadium in the Batticaloa town. Sources further confirmed that Minister suffered no injuries in the attack. However, few people including a foreign diplomat have suffered injuries.
