மட்டக்களப்பு மாவட்டத்தில் கடந்த சில நாட்களாக தொடர்ந்துமேற்கொள்ளப்படும் எறிகணைத் தாக்குதல்கள் காரணமாக கர்ப்பிணித் தாய்மார் பலருக்கு கருச்சிதைவு ஏற்பட்டுள்ளதாகவும், முகாம்களில் உரிய சுகாதார வசதியின்மை காரணமாகப் பெரும் தொற்றுநோய் பரவும் அபாயமிருப்பதாகவும் எச்சரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

அத்துடன் 89 முகாம்களில் ஒரு இலட்சத்து 53 ஆயிரத்து 264 பேர் அடிப்படை வசதிகளின்றி தங்கியுள்ளதுடன், வீதியோரங்கள் மற்றும் மர நிழல்களுக்குக் கீழ் 15 ஆயிரம் பேரும் மற்றும் ஆயிரக்கணக்கானவர்கள் உறவினர் வீடுகளில் தங்கியிருப்பதாகவும் தெரிவிக்கப்படுகின்றது.

எறிகணைத் தாக்குதல்களின் அதிர்வு காரணமாக கர்ப்பிணித் தாய்மார்கள் கருச்சிதைவை எதிர்கொண்டு வைத்தியசாலைகளில் சிகிச்சைபெற்று வருகின்றனர்.

போதிய உணவுவசதிகள் இடம்பெயர்ந்த மக்களுக்கு வழங்கப்படுவதாக அரசாங்கம் கூறியபோதிலும் உணவு உரிய முறையில் மக்களை சென்றடையவில்லை. இதன்காரணமாக மக்கள் பெரும் சிரமங்களை எதிர்கொள்கின்றனர்.

அத்துடன் அகதிமுகாம்களில் மக்கள் நிரம்பிவழிவதன் காரணமாகவும், உரிய சுகாதாரவசதிகளை மேற்கொள்ளாமையாலும் தொற்றுநோய் பரவும் அபாயமும் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.

சர்வதேச அரசசார்பற்ற நிறுவனங்கள் சில மாவட்டத்தின் நிலவமைப்பைக் கவனத்தில் கொள்ளாது இடம்பெயர்ந்தவர்களுக்கான கூடாரங்களை அமைத்து வருகின்றன. மழை பெய்ய ஆரம்பிக்குமிடத்து பெரும் நெருக்கடிக்குள் தள்ளப்படும் நிலை இம் மக்களுக்கு உருவாகும்.

இதேவேளை, இடம்பெயர்ந்த மக்களுக்கு சமைத்த மற்றும் உலர்உணவுப் பொருட்களுடன் கூடாரங்கள், உடுதுணிகள், சிறுவர்களுக்கான பால்மா என்பன மிக அவசரமாகத் தேவைப்படுகின்றன. பாரிய மனிதாபிமான நெருக்கடி ஏற்பட்டுள்ள நிலையில் தொண்டர் நிறுவனங்கள் மக்களின் அடிப்படைத் தேவைகளை நிறைவேற்ற உடனடியாக முன்வரவேண்டுமெனவும் தெரிவிக்கப்படுகின்றது

Highest birth rate recorded from Embilipitiya

COLOMBO: The highest birth rate in Sri Lanka has been reported from Embilipitiya in the Sabaragamuwa province, a Health Ministry spokesman said.

He said the average birth rate of Embilipitiya was only 100 per month in the nineties but it has rapidly increased by 5 per cent after 2000. The improvement of healthcare facilities has attributed this situation. The number of births occurred during the last month in Embilipitiya was 500.

It is also reported that underage marriages is one reason behind this increase. The Ratnapura and Kegalle districts are popular for underage marriages, he said.

The Ministry provided a new Gynaecology Unit to the Embilipitiya Hospital costing Rs. 87 million. The Ministry in collaboration with the World Bank and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council funded this project.

This unit consisting of 100 beds and modern health care facilities for pregnant mothers could handle ten deliveries at once. The Ministry has also provided 66 doctors, 30 nurses and many more facilities.

Furniture and other equipment worth Rs.11 million have also been provided by UNICEF and an Australian NGO, he said.

The Ministry has also provided a Rs. 70 million worth mental health and STD unit to the hospital. Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva laid foundation stone for the OPD and administration building complex which is estimated to cost Rs. 150 million. Specialist doctors’ quarters will also be built at a cost of Rs.15 million, he said.
