Sea death boy was Tamil pilgrim

A 15-year-old boy who died when he and an 11-year-old boy were swept out to sea was on a Tamil pilgrimage to Norfolk with his family.

Anandarajan Neelprasantha, of Wembley, had been on pilgrimage to Walsingham Shrine before visiting Wells.

The younger boy was rescued near Wells, but the teenager was swept further out before being winched onto a helicopter after the incident on Sunday.

He was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital but later died.

The emergency services were called after a witness saw two boys in the sea at 1630 BST.

Two helicopters

The older child was carried out by the current before he was spotted just before 1800 BST.

The search involved a local inshore lifeboat, coastguard and an air rescue helicopter, a police helicopter and police officers on foot.

The tiny village of Walsingham is a place of Christian pilgrimage where both Catholics and Anglicans come to pray at the shrines dedicated to Our Lady of Walsingham.

Thousands of Tamil Christians make their way there on an annual organised pilgrimage.
