இலங்கையில் உள்ள பிரிட்டிஷ் ராஜதந்திரி Mahendra Ratnaweera வும் உள்ளூர் பத்திரிகையாளரான Namal Perera வும் கொழும்பில் கடுமையாக தாக்கப்பட்டு ஆபத்தான நிலையில் வைத்தியசாலையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.

UK diplomat attacked in Sri Lanka

A British High Commission employee in Sri Lanka's capital, Colombo, has been attacked along with a local journalist.

Political officer Mahendra Ratnaweera and reporter Namal Perera were travelling by car together when they were stopped and attacked.

The Sri Lanka Press Institute said a group of people carried out the assault. It is not clear who they were.

Mr Perera is the latest of a number of journalists in the country to have been subjected to violence recently.

The two men were both seriously injured in the attack and taken to hospital.

Mr Perera told reporters that he had locked the car doors but the attackers had smashed the windows.

"They continued to beat us with batons and clubs and escaped when a large group of bystanders gathered," he said, the AFP news agency reports.

இலங்கையில் பிரித்தானிய தூதரக ஊழியர் மற்றும் செய்தியாளர் தாக்குதல்

இலங்கையில், தலைநகர் கொழும்பில் உள்ள பிரித்தானிய தூதரகத்தின் ஊழியர் ஒருவரும், உள்ளூர் செய்தியாளர் ஒருவரும் தாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.

தூதரக அதிகாரியான மஹேந்திர ரட்ணவீரவும், செய்தியாளர் நாமல் பெரேராவும் ஒன்றாக கார் ஒன்றில் பயணித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தபோது, அவர்களை மறித்த குழு ஒன்று அவர்கள் மீது தாக்குதல் நடத்தியதாக இலங்கை பத்திரிகை ஸ்தாபனம் என்னும் அமைப்பு கூறியுள்ளது.

இந்த தாக்குதலுக்கான நோக்கம் என்னவென்று இதுவரை சமிக்ஞை எதுவும் தெரியவில்லை. ஆனால், இலங்கையில் அண்மைய வன்செயல்களுக்கு இலக்கான செய்தியாளர்களில் தற்போது நாமல் பெரேராவும் உள்ளடங்குகிறார்.

தமது அதிகாரி மீதான தாக்குதலை இலங்கைக்கான பிரித்தானிய தூதுவர் அருவருக்கத்தக்க செயல் என்று கூறிக் கண்டித்துள்ளார்.

இந்தக் குற்றத்தைச் செய்தவர்களை நீதியின் முன்நிறுத்த இலங்கை அரசாங்கத்துடன் சேர்ந்து அனைத்து முயற்சிகளும் மேற்கொள்ளப்படும் என்றும் அவர் கூறியுள்ளார்.

தாக்குதல்களுக்கு வந்தவர்களது வாகனத்தின் இலக்கம் 253-2908 எனத்தெரியவந்துள்ளது.
