Four Tamil youth, S. Ramana, S Chandiran, K. Banu and a Tamil media personality P. Theiveekan have staged a hunger strike today at 2.00 pm at Pultney Street, Dandenong Park in Melbourne.

They have placed four demands to the Australian Government upon which they are staging this strike. They urge the Government of Australia to exert diplomatic pressure on Sri Lanka,

• To enforce immediate and permanent ceasefire

• To ensure basic humanitarian aids reach to people in Vanni, the conflict zone.

• To allow freedom to Tamils to choose their place of living.

• To enter in to an immediate negotiation between GoSL and LTTE with a third party mediation, based on self determination.

They vow to continue the hunger strike until their demands are met. And have solicited the support of all to achieve their demands.

தாயகத்தில் இடம்பெறும் மனிதப்பேரவலத்துக்கு ஆஸ்திரேலிய அரசு உடனடி நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும் என்று கோரி ஆஸ்திரேலியா மெல்பேர்ன் நகரில் நான்கு இளைஞர்கள் மேற்கொண்டுவரும் காலவரையறையற்ற உண்ணாநிலை போராட்டத்தில் பெருந்தொகையான மெல்பேர்ன் வாழ் தமிழ் உறவுகள் கலந்துகொண்டு தமது ஆதரவை தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.

இன்று திங்கட்கிழமை பிற்பகல் 2.30 மணியளவில் மெல்பேரன் டண்டிநொங் பகுதியில் ஆரம்பமாகிய இந்த போராட்டத்தில் உண்ணாவிரதிகளான ரமணா, சந்திரன், பானு, தெய்வீகன் ஆகியோர் முதலில் மருத்துவ சோதனைக்கு உட்படுத்தப்பட்டார்கள். உடல்நிலை தொடர்பான உறுதியை மருத்துவர்கள் அறிவித்ததை அடுத்து உண்ணாவிரதிகள் மேடைக்கு சென்றனர்.

அகவணக்கத்துக்கடன் ஆரம்பமான நிகழ்வில் முதலில் உண்ணாவிரதிகளுக்கு தமிழ்நாட்டில் இருந்து உணர்ச்சி கவிஞர் காசி ஆனந்தன் தொலைபேசி மூலம் தனது வாழ்த்துக்களை தெரிவித்தார். மறுமலர்ச்சி திராவிட முன்னேற்றக்கழக பொதுச்செயலர் வைகோவும் தொலைபேசி மூலம் தனது வாழ்த்துக்களை தெரிவித்தார்.

அதன்பின்னர், மெல்பேரன் தமிழ்அமைப்புக்களின் பிரதிநிதிகள் உட்பட மெல்பேர்ன் வாழ் தமிழ்உறவுகள் பலரும் மேடைக்கு வந்து உண்ணாவிரதிகளுக்கு தமது வாழ்த்துக்களை தெரிவித்து உண்ணாவிரதிகளின் கோரிக்கைகள் விரைவில் ஆஸ்திரேலிய அரசினால் நிறைவேற்றப்படும் என நம்பிக்கை தெரிவித்தார்கள்.

தாயக நிலைவரம் தொடர்பாகவும் சர்வதேச சமூகத்தின் மௌனம் தமிழ் சமூகத்துக்கு பெரும் கொடுமையாக தலைதூக்கியிருப்பது குறித்தும் அங்கு தமிழின உணர்வாளர்கள் சிலர் பேசினர். உண்ணாவிரதிகளின் உறுதியான போராட்டம் தமிழினத்தின் போராட்டம் எவ்வளவுதூரம் உலகமயமாகியிருக்கிறது என்பதற்கு நல்ல உதாரணம் என்றும் அவர்கள் கூறினர்.

சிறுவர் சிறுமியரது பேச்சு, தாயகப்பாடல் மற்றும் பிரார்த்தனை ஆகியவையும் இடம்பெற்றன.

இன்றையதினம் இங்கு விடுமுறைதினமாகையால் உண்ணாவிரதப்போராட்டத்துக்கு அரசு தரப்பில் இருந்து எந்த பதிலும் கிடைக்கவில்லை. ஆனாலும் டண்டிநொங் நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர் ஜோன் பன்டர்ஸோபோலஸ் இன்றைய உண்ணாவிரதப்போராட்டத்துக்கு தனது வாழ்த்து செய்தியை அனுப்பியிருந்தார். காந்திய வழியில் - சாத்வீக முறையில் - மெற்கொள்ளப்படுகின்ற இந்த போராட்டத்தை பார்க்கும்போது தனக்கு மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சியாக உள்ளது என்று அவர் தனது செய்தியில் குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தார்.

இரவு 8.30 மணியளவில் நிகழ்வினை பதிவு செய்வதற்கு ஆஸ்திரேலிய ஊடகமான ஏ.பி.ஸி. தொலைக்காட்சி உண்ணாவிரதிகளை காட்சிபடுத்தியதுடன் அவர்களது பேச்சுக்களையும் பதிவு செய்து சென்றது

Tamils call on Govt to push for ceasefire

Melbourne's Tamil community has held a demonstration in Dandenong, to call on the Federal Government to intervene in violence in Sri Lanka.

The protesters want Australia to push for a permanent ceasefire in the conflict between Sri Lanka's Government and Tamil Tiger rebels.

A group of about 400 protesters has also been rallying outside Kirribilli House in Sydney.

One of the protesters at Dandenong, George Bharani, says four of the Tamils have gone on a hunger strike.

"This is basically a desperation from these boys, a desperation from our community to get the ministers, to get the Australian Government to come to us, talk to us, and listen to our pleas," he said.

He says the Tamils are desperate for help.

"We have our own brothers and sisters living back there in conditions that are unimaginable," he said.

"We want them to be saved. We want our Tamil people to have freedom, and if we are not going to voice that, as people who come from Sri Lanka, who else is going to do it for them?"
