You can help SAVE LIVES in Vanni by:

- Attending the fundraising even that will be held on June 13, 2009 from 4-7 at J & J Swagat Banquet Hall.

- Talking to your neighbour or co-worker to donate money for Global Medic or MSF (Doctors without Borders) using the attached donation forms (Charitable tax receipts will be provided).

It is already reaching the mainstream:

Background

We Tamil-Canadians are all very concerned about the welfare of 275,000 internally displaced peoples (IDPs) held in camps in the north and east of Sri Lanka. We hear they are facing malnutrition and lack of medical care in overcrowded facilities. Despite the recent cessation of hostilities in this war-torn country, the IDPs continue to be victims of war.

Global Medic Canada is an internationally recognized charity based out of Toronto that first began working in Sri Lanka during the post-tsunami emergency relief and reconstruction efforts. Over the past five years, they have continued to work in Sri Lanka providing a range of relief efforts from Trauma management training to donating medical supplies for local hospitals. GlobalMedic currently has two field hospitals servicing 2600 people daily and has set up water purification units providing clean drinking water to approximately 140,000 refugees.

This fundraiser has two main objectives. One is providing urgently needed aid to IDPs through organizations already on the ground that can benefit from our financial support. The second is partnering up with non-Tamil organizations to reach out to the Canadian public and get their support and solidarity behind this worthy cause. We cannot raise this issue to the forefront without the support of Canadian organizations and media.

The fund raising event will be held on June 13, 2009 from 4-7 at J & J Swagat Banquet Hall, 415 Hood Road - Unit 22, Markham, ON L3R 3W2. All funds raised will be used to support new and ongoing Global Medic projects in the North and East of Sri Lanka.
