இந்திய உயரதிகாரிகளின் தலையீட்டை வேண்டி நிற்கும் வணங்காமண் பொருட்கள்

வணங்காமண் பொருட்களை துறைமுகத்திலிருந்து எடுக்க இலங்கை செஞ்சிலுவை சங்கம் இந்திய உயரதிகாரிகளின் தலையீட்டை வேண்டியுள்ளனர்.

இடம்பெயர்ந்த வன்னி மக்களுக்கென நிவாரணப்பொருட்களை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு பிரன்சிலிருந்து கடந்த ஏப்பிரல் மாதத்தில் புறப்பட்ட வணங்காமண் கப்பல், பல சிக்கல்களில் சிக்கி கடைசியில் சென்னைத் துறைமுகத்தில் பொருட்களை இறக்கியது. அப்பொருட்கள் இந்திய செஞ்சிலுவைச் சங்கத்தால் வேறொரு கப்பல் மூலம் கொழும்புக்கு அனுப்பப்பட்டது. ஆனால் அவற்றை இலங்கை சுங்க அதிகாரிகள் சோதனை செய்து துறைமுகத்துக்கு வெளியே இன்னமும் அனுமதிக்கவில்லை.

27 கொள்கலன்களில் உள்ள அந்தப் பொருட்கள் விடயமாக இலங்கைச் செஞ்சிலுவைச் சங்கம் இந்திய உயரதிகாரிகளுக்கு கடிதம் ஒன்றை அனுப்பியுள்ளதாக அறியப்படுகிறது.

இந்தப் பொருட்களை வெளியே அனுமதிப்பது பற்றி இந்திய உயரதிகாரிகள் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டுமெனக் கோரியதற்கு உரிய நடவடிக்கை எடுப்பதாக இந்திய உயர் ஸ்தானிகராலயம் உறுதி தந்துள்ளதாகவும் இ.செ.ச இயக்குநர் சுரேன் பீரிஸ் கூறியுள்ளார்.

Relief cargo still caught in Red Cross crossfire in Lanka-P K Balachandran, Colombo

THE Sri Lankan Red Cross (SLRC) has written to the Indian High Commission here to help it clear the 840 tonnes of relief material sent by the Indian Red Cross (IRC) from the Colombo port.

However, the Indian officials seemed reluctant to get involved, sources told Express, adding that it was essentially a dispute between two NGOs -- the SLRC and the IRC -- and that it would be better if the two resolved the issues between themselves.

Neutral observers say that the Indian authorities have done their best by allowing the vessel MV Captain Ali to unload the 27 containers in Chennai; getting the IRC to take charge of it, and sending it to Colombo by MV Cap Colorado and finally, getting the Sri Lankan government to accept the cargo on humanitarian grounds.

Earlier, the Sri Lankan authorities had disallowed MV Captain Ali saying that it was carrying cargo sent by the LTTE for propaganda and not for humanitarian purposes. Eventually, Colombo not only allowed the cargo to come in, but also exempted it from customs and other taxes. Only the port charges and the transportation had to be paid. But the SLRC and IRC have been fighting over who should pay these charges.

According to the SLRC, the IRC had not sent the Bill of Lading and other documents. Above all, it was not footing the bill, as the shipper should. But IRC is waiting for the original sender of the cargo, Mercy Mission of the UK, to take the tab. It says that Mercy Mission had accepted to pay.

Meanwhile, port charges have been mounting as the cargo has been in the port since July 9.
