HELP! HELP! HELP!

Featured Replies

Please, we need all your friends, relatives and neighbors participation in this campaign!

Amnesty International is conducting an “Unlock the Camps” campaign to release the imprisoned Tamil civilians in the Sri Lankan army’s detention camps. They cite the terrible conditions in the camps and explain why the camps should be “unlocked.”

We agree with Amnesty International and we want our Tamil and non-Tamil friends to sign Amnesty International’s petition.

The petition is being sent to Basil Rajapaksa and to Mrs Nirupama Rao,

India’s Secretary of the Ministry for External Affairs. Most Tamils will say that sending a letter to either of these people is like pouring water on a duck: the water runs off and never gets the duck wet. We agree, but we think there is value in adding our names to Amnesty International’s petition. Thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of our signatures will get the attention of other statesmen and governments who are more likely to listen than either Mr. Rajapaksa or Mrs. Rao.

Large numbers of legitimate signatures impress Western governments. We want to help Amnesty International to draw these governments’ attention to detention camps in Sri Lanka. We hope that this will be one more push that will eventually move them to take some kind of action to solve the problem of these dreadful camps.
