தென்ஆப்ரிக்க முன்னாள் அதிபர் நெல்சன் மண்டேலா மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டு்ள்ளதாக தகவல் தெரிவிக்கின்றன. எனினும் இது வழக்கமான மருத்துவ பரிசோதனைதான் அவரது நெருங்கிய வட்டாரங்கள் தெரிவித்தனர்.

இனவெறிக்கொள்கையினை எதிர்த்து போராடிய சிறை சென்ற நெல்சன்மண்டேலா (92). கடந்த சில மாதங்களாக பொதுமக்களை சந்திப்பதை தவிர்த்து வந்தார். உடல்நிலை காரணம் என கூறப்பட்டு வந்த போதிலும். கடந்தாண்டு நடந்த உலகக்கோப்பை கால்பந்து போட்டியின் நிறைவு நாள் நிகழ்ச்சியில் போது தான் கடைசியாக பொதுமக்களை சந்தித்தார். அதன் பிறகு கேப்டவுணில் உள்ள தனது இல்லத்தில் தான் வசித்து வந்தார். இந்நிலையில் நேற்று முன் அவருக்கு உடல்நலக்குறைவு ஏற்பட்டதாகவும், இதனால் கேப்டவுண் நகரிலிருந்து ஜோஹன்ஸ்பெர்க் நகரில் உள்ள ஒரு மருத்துவமனைக்கு கொண்டுவரப்பட்டார். அவரை டாக்டர்கள் பரிசோதித்தனர் எனவும், இது வழக்கமான உடல் பரிசோதனை தான் தற்போது அவர் உடல் நிலை நன்றாக உள்ளது என்று ‌‌‌‌ஜோஹன்ஸ்பெர் ஆர்ச்பிஷப் டெஸ்மான்டூட்டு ‌தெரிவித்தார்

'Anything can happen' with Mandela's health: Tutu

Archbishop Desmond Tutu said Thursday that "anything can happen" with Nelson Mandela's health as South Africa anxiously awaited news after its revered former leader was hospitalized.

"What more do we want from him? We want him to remain forever, but you know . . . anything can happen," Tutu said, responding to questions at the opening ceremony for an institute for the study of racial reconciliation at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein.

Tutu said he had seen his fellow Nobel Peace Prize winner last week. Mandela is in "amazing" condition for his age, he said, though "at 92 years he cannot run a marathon now".

Tutu, who shares Mandela's status as an icon of the struggle against white minority rule in South Africa, had on Tuesday told the Sapa news agency that the country's first black president appeared "frail" during their recent visit.

Nelson Mandela was discharged from hospital today after spending two-and-a-half days being treated for a respiratory infection. He was driven home in a military ambulance led by nine motorbikes and six police cars, and will be receiving medical care at his home.

Hospital staff came out to watch him leave and photographers charged after the convoy. Mandela was said to be in high spirits.

The surgeon general, Lt Gen Vejaynand Ramlakan, told reporters that Mandela had been admitted for “routine testing” but had developed “an acute respiratory infection common to people his age.” He previously suffered from tuberculosis while on Robben Island and has had previous respiratory infections.

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe admitted the government could have handled information on his illness better as the ANC and the Presidency yesterday called for calm as concerns mounted over his health.

"Madiba is well," Motlanthe said. "He is receiving the best treatment from top doctors.

"There is no need for us to panic. There is no reason for us to fear for Madiba's health," he said, flanked by family members and doctors.
