Sydney Greens candidate Dianne Hiles is hosting a special screening of the film 'No Fire Zone: The Killing Fields of Sri Lanka', a feature documentary which follows the Sri Lankan government’s final offensive in a 26 year war against the rebel forces of the Tamil Tigers. No Fire Zone is a film of record and a call to action: it is a true story of war crimes committed at the end of the Sri Lankan civil war in 2009. More than just a film, No Fire Zone aims to build local campaigns for accountability and justice for the victims of the war crimes committed in Sri Lanka. No Fire Zone was screened at the UN earlier this year before the Human Rights Council passed a resolution asking Sri Lanka to investigate accusations of war crimes.

Callum Macrae is an award-winning film maker, writer and journalist currently with Outsider Television and currently lives in England. This screening will be accompanied by an introduction by director of No Fire Zone, Callum Macrae, via video link.

After the screening, representative of the Tamil community, Brami Jegan and Dianne Hiles, Greens candidate for Sydney, will lead a discussion in relation to the subject matter of the film, the plight of the Tamil community and its impact on people seeking asylum in Australia.
