தமிழர்களான இந்த பணியாளர்கள் கொழும்பின் பிரதான தொடரூந்து நிலையத்தில் இருந்து நேற்று சனிக்கிழமை கடத்திச் செல்லப்பட்டிருந்தனர்.

கொல்லப்பட்டவர்கள் இருவரும் சண்முகலிங்கம் மற்றும் சந்திரமோகன் என அனைத்துலக செஞ்சிலுவைச் சங்கம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

பிரான்ஸ் தொண்டர் அமைப்பின் பணியாளர்கள் மீதான படுகொலைகளின் பின்னர் நடைபெற்ற மோசமான சம்பவம் இது என தெரிவிக்கப்படுகின்றது.

இரத்தினபுரிப் பகுதியில் கைகள் கண்கள் கட்டப்பட்ட நிலையில் துப்பாக்கிச் சூட்டுக் காயங்களுடன் சடலமாக மீட்கப்பட்ட இளைஞர்கள் இருவரும் மட்டக்களப்பினைச் சேர்ந்த இலங்கைச் செஞ்சிலுவைச்சங்க பணியாளர்கள் என கண்டறியப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இச்சடலங்கள் கிரியெல்ல எல்லாகாவ கொட்டேபோக் காட்டுப் பிரதேசத்தில் நேற்றுக் காலை மீட்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. இருவரில் ஒருவருடைய சடலம் கடும் நீலநிற நீளக் காற்சட்டையும் ஷேர்ட்டும் மற்றய சடலம் கறுப்பு நிற நீளக் காற்சட்டையும் கபில நிற ஷேர்ட்டும் அணிந்த நிலையில் காணப்பட்டுள்ளன. இருவரின் சடலங்களின் கைகள் மற்றும் கண்கள் கட்டப்பட்ட நிலையில் துப்பாக்கிச் சூட்டுக் காயங்களுடன் மீட்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

கொழும்பு கோட்டை புகையிரத நிலைய பகுதியில் வைத்து கடத்தப்பட்ட இவ்விருவரும் வேறெங்காவது வைத்துக் கொலை செய்யப்பட்டுப் பின்னர் இப்பகுதியில் கொண்டு வந்து போடப்பட்டிருக்கலாம் எனப் பொலிசார் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர். மேலதிக விசாரணைகளைப் பொலிசார் மேற்கொண்டு வருகின்றனர்.

இதேவேளை வவுனியா மதவாச்சியில் சடலம் ஒன்றும் மாத்தளை வளகந்தையில் மற்றொரு சடலமும் சப்ரகமூவா மாகாணத்தில் மேலும் இரு சடலங்களும் பொலிசாரால் மீட்கப்பட்டு வைத்தியசாலையில் ஒப்படைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

Two Sri Lankan Red Cross volunteers who had been abducted in the capital, Colombo, have been shot dead, the aid group has said.

The bodies of the two men were found in Ratnapura district, about 100km (60 miles) south-east of Colombo.

The aid workers had been abducted by gunmen claiming to be police.

The defence ministry said police were investigating the deaths, which came amid heavy fighting between government forces and Tamil Tiger rebels.

"The two were part of a group of six aid workers brought from Batticaloa (in the island's east) for a training programme related to tsunami relief work last week," Red Cross director general Neville Nanayakkara told the news agency AFP.

"Some people in civilian clothes said they were from the police and wanted to see the identity cards of the six workers," Mr Nanayakkara said. "They took away two of them, saying it was for further questioning."

According to reports, both of the men were members of the country's Tamil minority.

Red Cross workers killed in Sri Lanka despite security pledge

COLOMBO (AFP) - Gunmen claiming to be police have abducted and shot dead two Red Cross employees in Sri Lanka barely a week after the country pledged greater security for aid workers.

The Geneva-based charity said the bullet-riddled bodies of S. Shanmungaligam and K. Chandramohan were discovered late Saturday in the central town of Ratnapura, hours after they were abducted from the main railway station in Colombo.

"The two were part of a group of six aid workers brought from Batticaloa (in the island's east) for a training programme related to tsunami relief work last week," Sri Lanka Red Cross director general Neville Nanayakkara told AFP.

The deaths are the worst attack against aid workers here since the massacre of 17 French charity workers in August.

"Some people in civil clothes said they were from the police and wanted to see the identity cards of the six workers," Nanayakkara said. "They took away two of them saying it was for further questioning."

He said they were alerted to the bodies found in Ratnapura after a local television channel on Saturday night showed images of unidentified victims found in the area.

Nanayakkara said he had informed the island's defence secretary and police chief about the missing aid workers early Saturday, but there was no response.

The defence ministry said people who "claimed to be from the (police) Criminal Investigations Department," had abducted the aid workers in a white van and added that police were investigating.

Both workers belonged to Sri Lanka's minority Tamil community.

Their killings came on the same day that President Mahinda Rajapakse met with relatives of more than 100 people who had gone missing in recent months.

Rajapakse told relatives that 90 percent of the cases reported as abductions and disappearances were linked to domestic disputes, his office said in a statement before the killings of the Red Cross workers were reported.

"He explained that neither the government nor the security forces had any necessity to carry on illegal acts of abduction and that the government always acted in keeping with the law," the statement said.

Key aid donors Tuesday announced the government had offered them security guarantees for their workers who have been accused by the state media and ministers of supporting Tamil Tiger rebels.

Following the guarantees, the aid groups from the US, UN and European Union among others agreed to return to work in north and eastern areas of the country, the scene of almost daily fighting.

The aid workers help refugees from the war and work on reconstruction projects to help those displaced by the December 2004 tsunami as well as fighting between troops and Tamil rebels.

Fighting in the region has killed more than 5,000 people in the past 18 months alone.

The Tamil Tigers have been fighting for a separate homeland since 1972. More than 60,000 people have been killed in the conflict.

The deaths in August of the local workers for the French charity Action Against Hunger in the northeastern town of Muttur were blamed by Scandinavian ceasefire monitors on the military, a charge denied by defence authorities.

The case is now being investigated by a special presidential commission under international supervision.
