Unidentified attackers triggered a claymore device Thursday around 5:45 p.m., killing three Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers and seriously wounding one at Eechchamoaddai coastal road area in the High Security Zone, 500 meters from Jaffna city. The SLA troopers were returning in a tractor to the main base at Eechchamoaddai after distributing food to their fellow men posted along Jaffna-Kandy road and Main street when the attack took place.

Sri Lanka Army officials in Colombo said 3 SLA troopers were killed and one seriously injured in the attack.

The injured trooper has been rushed to Palaali military hospital.

SLA launched cordon off search operation in Ma'ravanku'lam area on the Eechchamoaddai coastal road along which the claymore device had been hidden.

The SLA troopers, after the distribution of food to the sentry posts, were returning from the Jaffna-Kandy road via Old Park road and passing Ma'ravanku'lam area along the Eechamoaddai coastal road when the claymore device exploded.

Jaffna-Kandy road, Main Street, Old Park road, Eechchamoaddai coastal roads are on the main route the SLA use for food delivery to the SLA troopers manning the sentry points.
