வவுனியா மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள இராமநாதன் தடுப்பு முகாமில் உள்ள தமிழர்கள் மீது நேற்று சிறிலங்காப் படையினர் நடத்திய துப்பாக்கிச் சூட்டில் ஐந்து பேர் காயமடைந்துள்ளதாக வவுனியா செய்திகள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன.

இராமநாதன் தடுப்பு முகாமில் இருந்து விறகு விற்பனை செய்வதற்காக ஆனந்தகுமாரசுவாமி தடுப்பு முகாமுக்கு நேற்று சனிக்கிழமை மாலை 6:00 மணியளவில் சென்றவர்கள் மீது சிறிலங்காப் படையினர் துப்பாக்கிச் சூட்டினை நடத்தியுள்ளனர்.

இதில் படுகாயமடைந்த மூன்று மற்றும் ஆறு வயது சிறுமிகள் இருவர் உடனடியாக மெனிக் பாம் முகாமில் உள்ள எம்.எஸ்.எஃப் மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.

இவர்களில் ஆறு வயதான நிதர்சிகா என்ற சிறுமி பின்னர் வவுனியா மருத்துவமனையின் விபத்துப் பிரிவில் மேலதிக சிகிச்சைக்காக அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாக மருத்துவமனை வட்டாரங்கள் தெரிவித்துள்ளன.

இச்சம்பவம் தொடர்பாக சிறிலங்காவின் ஊடக மத்திய நிலையம் தெரிவித்துள்ளதாவது:

மெனிக் பாம் தடுப்பு முகாமில் நேற்று பிற்பகல் முதலாம் வட்டார தடுப்பு முகாமில் இருந்து இரண்டாம் வட்டார தடுப்பு முகாமுக்குள் பலாத்காரமாக நுழைவதற்கு ஆவேசம் கொண்ட குழு ஒன்று மேற்கொள்ள திட்டமிட்ட முயற்சி படையினரால் முறியடிக்கப்பட்டது.

இந்தக் குழுவினரின் பலாத்கார நுழைவு முயற்சியை படையினர் தடுத்தபோது குழுவினர் படையினரின் காப்பரண்கள் மீது பொல்லுகள், கற்களால் தாக்குதல் நடத்தியுள்ளனர்.

அந்தவேளையில் கூட்டத்தை கலைப்பதற்காக எச்சரிக்கை வேட்டை தீர்த்த படையினர் மீது ஒருவர் கைக்குண்டு ஒன்றை எறிய முயற்சித்தார்.

எனினும் தற்காப்புக்காக படையினர் நடத்திய துப்பாக்கிச் சூட்டினால் கூட்டத்தில் இருந்த இருவர் காயமடைந்து செட்டிக்குளம் மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.

தடுப்பு முகாம் மக்களை வன்முறைக்குத் தூண்டிய 19 பேரை காவல்துறையினர் பின்னர் கைது செய்துள்ளனர்.

சம்பவம் தொடர்பாக காவல்துறையினர் விசாரகளை மேற்கொண்டு வருகின்றனர்.

'Clashes' in Sri Lankan centre

Most Tamil refugees are held in larger refugee camps

A detainee at an unofficial detention centre in Sri Lanka has been injured after clashes broke out with the army, Amnesty International has said.

The international human rights group says that a Tamil man was initially reported to have been killed while trying to escape from the centre.

The rumour is said to have sparked unrest at the camp.

Amnesty says up to 1,000 people suspected of having ties to the Tamil Tigers have been detained since May.

There has been no comment from the government about the incident, which Amnesty said took place at a school in Vavuniya in north-eastern Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

"The danger of serious human rights violations, including torture, enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings increases substantially when detainees are held in locations that are not officially acknowledged places of detention and lack proper legal procedures and safeguards," said Sam Zarifi, Amnesty International's Asia Director.

Amnesty says that detainees in centres such as the Poonthotham Teachers Training College are "being held incommunicado, meaning they have not had access to family members or legal counsel and have not appeared in court".

"Arrangements should be made for independent monitoring of screening processes," an Amnesty statement says, "and Tamil Tiger suspects must be held only in recognised places of detention and be brought before a judicial authority without delay after being taken into custody."
