The JVP today renewed calls for a debate between Opposition Common Candidate General Sarath Fonseka and President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the alleged fraud in the procurement of certain military supplies. The JVP said General Fonseka was ready for the debate.

JVP parliamentary group leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake told reporters that only these two are privy to all the arms deals as the Defence Minister and the Army Commander during that period.

“Of course, we have no understanding about arms deals. Those who challenge us for a debate also do not know anything about them. The President is the Defence Minister. General Fonseka was the Army Commander. They know what transpired with regard to the procurement of arms. They are the best persons to have this debate. General Fonseka is ready for it with the President at this time,” Mr. Dissanayake said. (KB)
