'என்மீது போர்க் குற்றமா?'- மகிந்த கேள்வி

விடுதலைப் புலிகளைத் தோற்கடித்தமை எவ்வாறு போர்க்குற்றமாகும் என்று இலங்கை ஜனாதிபதி மகிந்த ராஜபக்ஷ கேள்வியெழுப்பியுள்ளார். தன்னை மின்சார நாற்காலிக்கு அனுப்ப சிலர் முயற்சிப்பதாகவும் அவர் கூறியுள்ளார்.

தலைநகர் கொழும்பில் மாநகரசபை மைதானத்தில் நடைபெற்ற ஆளும் ஐக்கிய மக்கள் சுதந்திரக்கூட்டமைப்பு அரசாங்கத்தின் மேதின நிகழ்வில் உரையாற்றிய போதே ஜனாதிபதி இவ்வாறு கூறினார்.

தற்கொலை செய்துகொள்ள தயாராக இருந்த ஒரு சந்ததிக்கு வாழ வழி ஏற்படுத்திக்கொடுத்தமை மனித உரிமை மீறலாகுமா என்றும் மகிந்த ராஜபக்ஷ மேதின உரையில் கேள்வியெழுப்பினார். இலங்கையில் மனித உரிமை மீறல்கள் இடம்பெற்றுள்ளதாக அறிக்கை தயாரிப்பவர்கள் பொறுப்புடன் நடந்துகொள்ள வேண்டுமென்றும் ஜனாதிபதி கூறினார்.

நாட்டில் மனித உரிமை மீறல் இடம்பெற்றுள்ளதாக பொய்க்குற்றச்சாட்டு கொண்டுவருவதன் மூலம் நாட்டு மக்கள் மத்தியில் மீண்டும் குழப்பம் ஏற்படுத்த முனைய வேண்டாம் என்றும் மகிந்த ராஜபக்ஷ தெரிவித்தார். வடக்கு கிழக்கில் மட்டுமன்றி நாடு முழுவதும் முன்னெடுக்கப்படும் அபிவிருத்திப் பணிகளை இதன் மூலம் சீர்குலைக்க வேண்டாம் எனவும் அவர் தனது உரையில் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

இதேவேளை, தனியார் துறையினர் மற்றும் வெளிநாடுகளில் தொழில் புரிவோருக்காக விசேட ஓய்வூதிய திட்டமொன்றைக் கொண்டுவரும் அரசாங்கத்தின் முயற்சியை எந்தத் தடைகள் வந்தாலும் நிறைவேற்றியேத் தீருவேன் என்றும் ஐனாதிபதி மகிந்த ராஜபக்ஷ தனது மே தினச் செய்தியில் சூளுரைத்தார்.

Thousands rally against UN report

Tens of thousands of Sri Lankan attended May Day rallies in the capital, Colombo and other cities. The government was keen for them to be seen as a show of support for the leadership and a public rejection of a recent controversial UN report.

The president's call to oppose the UN panel report has been taken up by the major legislative opposition, United National Party (UNP) and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), except for the Tamil National Alliance (TNA). The report, which was released last week, said widespread shelling by government forces killed tens of thousands of civilians. It also criticised the Tamil Tiger rebels.

It called for an international investigation into alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity. The Sri Lankan government rejects the report's findings.

The UNP May Day rallies also focussed on opposing the proposed pension scheme. While many senior UNP leaders were attending the major rally in Bandarawela, the co-deputy leaders were attending the anniversary of the former President R Premadasa in Colombo. Trade unions and fedrerations held a rally following a march attended by thousands opposing controversial government proposals for a pension scheme aimed at the private sector. Calling the pension scheme as a programme 'undertaken by the government for the benefit of the working class,' President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that he would not allow anyone to 'sabotage the government policy to introduce the pension scheme'. Rejecting the pension proposals trade union leaders called it an International Monetary Fund (IMF) directive.

At least 20,000 plantation workers joined three rallies organised by pro-government political organisations in the hill country.

TNA or Tamil parties did not have any May rallies in the North.

Ban Ki-moon mega star at UPFA May Day show

The United Nations and its Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon will be the focal point of attention as the Government holds its May Day procession and rally in Colombo today. Yesterday, at a carpentry shed close to Angoda, workers were busy making masks of the UN chief and the experts Panel to be taken in procession today. They worked overnight to complete masks, effigies, placards against the Secretary General and his panel.

The anti-UN call will be the main theme of both the ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) as well as the National Freedom Front (NFF) led by Minister Wimal Weerawansa as they attempt to rally the people against the UN Report.

Effigies, posters, cutouts and floats were also being prepared to be taken in procession as part of today’s rally. A few days after the UN report was handed over, President Mahinda Rajapaksa told his supporters to convert May Day into a show of strength against moves to slap war crimes charges on Sri Lanka.

அதைத் தான் அறிக்கையில் சொல்கின்றார்கள். திரும்பத் திரும்ப வாசிப்பதால் இதைப் புரிந்து கொள்ளலாம்!
