"சனல்4 ஆவணப்படம் தொடர்பாக இந்திய அரசியல் மட்டத்திலிருந்து எந்தச் சத்தமும் இல்லை'

.இலங்கையின் கொலைக்களங்கள் என்று தலைப்பிடப்பட்ட தனது ஆவணப்படத்தை பிரிட்டனின் தொலைக்காட்சியான சனல் 4 ஒளிபரப்பிய இரு நாட்களின் பின்னரும் அது தொடர்பாக இந்தியாவின் அரசியல் மட்டத்திலிருந்து எந்தவொரு குரலும் எழுப்பப்படவில்லை. இதற்கு முரண்பாடாக போர்க்குற்றச்சாட்டுகள் குறித்து நம்பகரமான விசாரணைகளை ஆரம்பிப்பதற்கு இந்த வருடம் இறுதிப்பகுதி வரை பிரிட்டிஷ் அரசாங்கம் இலங்கைக்கு காலக்கொடு வழங்கியுள்ளது என்று நியூஇந்தியன் எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் பத்திரிகை நேற்று வெள்ளிக்கிழமை தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

நான்காவது ஈழப்போரின் இறுதிநாட்கள் தொடர்பான அதிர்ச்சியான காட்சிகளை சனல் 4 ஒளிபரப்பியிருந்தது.

2008 செப்டெம்பரில் கிளிநொச்சியிலிருந்து ஐ.நா.வின் கடைசிப் பணியாளர்களும் வெளியேறி இருந்தனர். கையடக்கத் தொலைபேசிக் கமராக்களில் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்ட ஒளிநாடாக்களை ஆதாரமாகக் கொண்டும் நேரில் கண்ட சாட்சியங்களின் பதிவைக் கொண்டும் சனல் 4 ஆவணப் படத்தைத் தயாரித்து இருந்தது. தமிழ்ப் பொதுமக்கள் மீது விசேடமாக மோதல் சூனிய வலயப் பகுதிக்குள் இருந்த மருத்துவ நிலையங்கள் மீது இலங்கை இராணுவம் படிமுறையாக ஷெல் தாக்குதலை நடத்தியதை அந்தப் பதிவுகள் காண்பிக்கின்றன. அத்துடன், வல்லுறவுகள் தொடர்பான நேரில் கண்ட சாட்சியங்களின் பதிவுகளும் காணப்படுகின்றன. புலிகளின் கொடூரங்களைச் சுட்டிக்காட்டும் பொழுது அவர்களின் நடவடிக்கை மூலம் இலங்கை அரசாங்கத்தின் நடவடிக்கைகளை நியாயப்படுத்த முடியாது என்ற நிலைப்பாட்டை அந்த ஆவணத் திரைப்படம் எடுத்திருக்கின்றது.

முக்கியமான நேரில் கண்ட சாட்சியமாக பிரிட்டிஷ் இலங்கைத் தமிழரான வாணி குமார் உள்ளார். மோதல் அதிகரித்திருந்த தருணத்தில் அவர் குடும்பத்தினரைப் பார்ப்பதற்காக சென்றிருந்தார். உயிரியல் மருத்துவ தொழில்நுட்பவியலாளரான அவர் இடமாறிக்கொண்டிருந்த தற்காலிக மருத்துவ நிலையங்களில் மருத்துவர்களுக்கு உதவி புரிந்துள்ளார். 2009 ஜனவரி 26 இல் இடமாற்று மருத்துவ நிலையங்கள் மீது ஷெல் தாக்குதல் கிரமமான முறையில் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டதாக அவர் கூறுகிறார். அந்தத் தருணத்தில் சுமார் 34 இலட்சம் மக்கள் மோதல் சூனிய வலயத்திற்குள் இருந்ததாகக் கணிப்பிடப்பட்டிருந்தது.

புதுக்குடியிருப்பு ஆஸ்பத்திரி மீது ஷெல் தாக்குதல் நடந்த பின்னரோன கையடக்கத்தொலைபேசி பிரதிமையையும் இந்த ஆவணப்படம் உள்ளடக்கியுள்ளது. அச்சம்பவத்தில் குறைந்தது 15 பேர் கொல்லப்பட்டிருந்தனர். தனது கால்கள் ஷெல் வீச்சால் காயமடைந்திருந்ததாக ஒரு நோயாளி கூறுகிறார். ஷெல் வீச்சைத் தொடர்ந்து துப்பாக்கிப் பிரயோகங்கள் இடம்பெற்றதாகவும் வாணி கூறுகிறார். ஷெல் வீச்சு தொடர்ந்து இடம்பெற்றதால் காயமடைந்தவர்களை விட்டுவிட்டு செல்ல வேண்டிய நிர்ப்பந்தம் ஏற்பட்டதாக நேரில் கண்ட சாட்சியங்கள் கூறுகின்றன.

முள்ளிவாய்க்காலுக்கு மோதல் சூனிய வலயம் நகர்ந்த போது சர்வதேச செஞ்சிலுவைச் சங்கப் பணியாளர்கள் ஆஸ்பத்திரிக்குச் சென்றிருந்தனர். மருத்துவமனை ஷெல் தாக்குதலுக்குட்பட்ட பின்னர் குறைந்தது 65 இலக்கு வைக்கப்பட்ட தாக்குதல்கள் மருத்துவ நிலையங்கள மீது இடம்பெற்றதாக வாணி நம்புகிறார்.

2009 மேயில் சுமார் 1 இலட்சத்து 30 ஆயிரம் பேர் மோதல் சூனிய வலயத்தில் இருந்தனர். அது ஒரு சதுர மயில் பரப்பளவாகச் சுருங்கியிருந்தது. அங்குள்ள புதிய மருத்துவமனையில் மருத்துவ உபகரணங்களுக்கு கடுமையான தட்டுப்பாடு இருந்தது. உணவுக்காக வரிசையில் நின்ற ஆறு வயதுப் பிள்ளை ஒன்று ஷெல் வீச்சில் தப்பியிருந்ததாகவும் அந்தப் பிள்ளை தனது ஒரு கால் ஒரு கையுடன் மருந்தின்றி இருந்ததாகவும் வாணி கூறுகிறார்.

கையடக்கத் தொலைபேசிகளில் இலங்கைப் படையினரால் எடுக்கப்பட்ட ஒளிநாடாக்களையும் அந்த ஆவணப் படத்தின் இரண்டாவது பிரிவு கொண்டுள்ளது. நிர்வாணமாக இருந்தவர்களுக்கு தண்டனை நிறைவேற்றப்படுவதைக் காண்பிப்பதாக அந்தப் பிரதிமை காணப்படுகிறது என்று நியூஇந்தியன் எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் பத்திரிகை தெரிவித்துள்ளது

Subject : India must not turn away from graphic documentary

The images are truly shocking. Summary executions of bound and gagged young men, the aftermath of rape and murder of young women, and the bloodied corpses of children. They are civilians, and among the 40,000 victims killed in Sri Lanka two years ago shortly after the government locked its doors to the outside world and set about dealing with its Tamil problem.

Killing Fields, shown in the U.K. on Tuesday and online through this weekend, has stirred intense though ultimately muted debate over how much graphic imagery is too much ( watch here: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/sri-lankas-killing-fields/4od#3200170)

The stated aim of the documentary producers is to push for an independent investigation into those alleged atrocities against civilians during the final weeks of Sri Lanka’s 2009 military campaign against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) — otherwise known as the Tamil Tigers.

On the basis of this documentary, lauded by British Prime Minister David Cameron earlier this week, the prima facie case is strong. British Foreign Office Minister Alistair Burt said he was “shocked by the horrific scenes” and demanded the Sri Lankan government respond.

The response of President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s government was swift and predictable: The footage is fake and the documentary was made to deliberately discredit the Sri Lankan army. In what would be a laughable comment if the circumstances weren’t so horrific, the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry accused Channel 4 of failing to meet “standards and fairness” expected of a respectable TV network.

Killing Fields also makes the point that the rebel Tamil Tigers were no innocents. They often used their own people as human shields, holding terrified women and children at gunpoint, and — as we clearly see in the faces of dead Tiger soldiers piled into wagons — many children had been recruited as fighters.

Should the worst of the images have been shown in India? Absolutely. The outpouring of outrage across the world, and the calls for a long-overdue independent inquiry, are evidence enough of the documentary’s positive impact. It is harrowing and ugly but the power of this mix of smart journalism and new media to set the wheels of international justice in motion trumps all else.
