general secretary Vaiko on Tuesday said that the Indian Government’s approach to the Sri Lanka situation amounted to `assisting the genocidal Sri Lankan Government.’ Even as the Tamils in Lanka were dying of starvation, the chief of Lankan Army, Sarath Fonseka was given a red carpet welcome by Indian Government, “with all undeserving honours,” said Vaiko in his letter to the Prime Minister. Indian Navy officials were suppressing the real facts about firing at Indian fishermen, he charged, adding that the failure of the Government to protect fishermen from Tamil Nadu was a betrayal of Tamils. Hitting out at the training given to the armed personnel of Lankan…

The fate of those unfortunate civilians in Mullivaikkal and environs were decided and sealed. Ravana is a hero for Sinhala nationalists Balachandran, Hindustan Times Colombo, September 23, 2007 \ The Ramayana is not part of the mainstream Sinhala religious and cultural tradition in Sri Lanka, because Buddhism has been the religion of the majority of Sinhalas for long. But ancient Sinhala works like Rajavaliya and Ravanavaliya identify Ravana as a Sinhala king and extol him as a great one. In modern Sri Lanka, there has been a movement to revive Ravana as a cult figure, who represents Sinhala or Sri Lankan nationalism because he was among the first in the island's history to have resisted an alien/Indian invader. In 1996 they were preschoolers living in Mankulam. Today Jinoshan and Rushanthini are learning Year-11 at Mankulam Maha Vidhyalayam. Their lives in the intervening decade are by no means typical for 15 year olds anywhere in the world. As four year olds they displaced with their families in 1997 as the Sri Lankan military launched an attack on Mankulam. Their families moved to Mallavi and the two started their schooling at Yohapuram Maha Vidhyalayam in Mallavi. One year later in 1998 they displaced again this time from Mallavi to Akkarayan because Mallavi came within Sri Lankan military artillery shell range. They were studying Year-3. In early 1999 they displaced a…

Selling Women Short The society that we live is framed as a place where women and men have equal rights; however in reality we live in a society that treats women unequally and still looks at women as sexual objects and baby machines. Selling Women short primarily talks about the sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and low wage and pay differentials among workers at all levels at Wal-Mart. The author is telling the story of the true cost of the low price goods at Wal-Mart by mainly interviewing the plaintiffs who filed the "Dukes Vs. Wal-mart" case, which is the class-action suit against Wal-Mart by some of its female employees. Even though the "Dukes Vs. Wal-mart…
