யாழ்ப்பாணம் வடமராட்சி நவிண்டில் டேவிற் படைமுகாம் மீது இன்று காலை 7.00 மணிமுதல் 7.15மணிவரை இனம்தெரியாத ஆயுததாரிகளால் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட துப்பாக்கிச் சூட்டுத் தாக்குதலில் சம்பவ இடத்திலேயே ஐந்து சிறிலங்காப் படையினர் கொல்லப்பட்டனர். இரண்டு படையினர் படுகாயமடைந்துள்ளனர். அங்கிருந்து கிடைக்கும் தகவல்கள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன.

வடமராச்சி உடுப்பிட்டி வதிரி வீதியில் அமைந்துள்ள இராணுவ முகாம்மீதும், நவிண்டில் பகுதியல் அமைந்துள்ள இராணுவ முகாம் மீதும் இனம் தெரியாத நபர்கள் தாக்குதல்கள் மேற்கொண்டுள்ளார்கள்.

முதலாவது சம்பவத்தில் உடுப்பிட்டி அமெரிக்கன் மிசன் பாடசாலைக்கு அண்மையில் உடுப்பிட்டி சந்தியில் வைத்து வியாழன் காலை 6.45 மணியளவில் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட தாக்குதலில் ஏற்பட்ட சேதவிபரம் எதுவும் அறியப்படவில்லை எனினும் இத்தாக்குதலானது 5 நிமிடநேரம் நீடித்ததாக குடிசார் தகவல்கள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன.

இரண்டாவது சம்பவத்தில் நவிண்டில் பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள டேவிட் இராணுவமுகாம் மீது மதியம் 2.40 மணியளவில் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட தாக்குதலில் உறுதிப்படுத்தப்படாத தகவலின்படி 3 பேர் படுகாயமடைந்தள்ளதாகவும் பின்னர் காயமடைந்தவர்களில் இருவர் இறந்ததாகவும் கூறப்படுகிறது எனினும் சிறீலங்கா அரசு இருவர் காயமடைந்துள்ளதாக மாத்திரமே தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

இதேவேளை இன்று நாகர்கோவில் முன்னரங்க நிலையில் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட குறிசூட்டுத் தாக்குதலில் ஒருவர் கொல்லப்பட்டமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

One SLA trooper killed, two injured in Vadamaradchi

Unknown gunmen attacked two Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camps, located at Vathiry Road in Udupiddy and David Camp in Navindil area, both in Vadamaradchi, Thursday, injuring two in David camp, sources from Jaffna said. Meanwhile, unconfirmed media reports in Jaffna said that a SLA trooper at Nagarkovil SLA front defence line in Vadamaradchi east was killed in Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) artillery attack while SLA sources said one trooper was killed in Tiger sniper fire Thursday evening. It is not known whether both reports referred to the same trooper.

In the first incident, unidentified armed men fired on the SLA camp near Udupiddy American Mission School at Udupitty junction around 6:45 a.m Thursday, and SLA troopers retaliated. Heavy exchange of fire took place for nearly five minutes but information on casualties is not available, sources in Jaffna said.

The second attack took place on David Camp located in Navindil area in Vadamaradchi just one km from the Udupiddy camp around 2.40 p.m Thursday by unidentified armed men. Unconfirmed reports said that three SLA troopers were seriously injured and later two of the injured died but SLA sources said that two troopers were injured in this attack.

David Camp which had been attacked several times before had been used by the Sea Tigers in 1995 and now used by the SLA as an intelligence camp.

In another incident, unidentified persons activated a claymore device hidden along Kankesanthurai road at Inuvil, targeting an SLA road patrol unit around 4:00 p.m Thursday, sources in Jaffna said. No one was injured in this attack.
