வன்னியில் சிறீலங்காப் படையினருக்கும் அவர்களின் ஆக்கிரமிப்பு நடவடிக்கைக்கும் பயந்து முல்லைத்தீவுக் கிழக்குக் கரையில் ஒதுங்கி இருக்கும் மக்கள் மீது அதி உச்ச சுடுவலுவைப் பயன்படுத்தி சிங்கள இராணுவம் மேற்கொண்ட இராணுவ நடவடிக்கையால் 20,000 மக்கள் வரை இன்று அதிகாலை சிறைபிடிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.

இதற்கிடையே இராணுவம் சிறைபிடித்த மக்கள் மீது நடத்திய கண்மூடித்தனமான தாக்குதலில் சுமார் 17 அப்பாவி மக்கள் இதுவரை கொல்லப்பட்டுள்ளனர். ஆனால் இது ஒரு தற்கொலைத் தாக்குதல் என்று வழமை போல இராணுவம் பிளேட்டை மாற்றி போட்டுள்ளது.

வன்னிக்குள் சிறீலங்கா இராணுவம் நகர்வது மனிதப் பேரவலத்தை ஏற்படுத்தும் என்று இந்த உலகைப் பார்த்துக் கத்தியும் எவரும் அதற்கு செவிமடுக்காத நிலையில் விடுதலைப்புலிகளாலும் இராணுவ முன்னேற்றத்தை தடுத்து நிறுத்த முடியாத நிலையிலும், விடுதலை கேட்ட மக்கள் இராணுவத்தால் சிறை பிடிக்கப்பட்டு சித்திரவதைகளையும் கொலைக்குள்ளாவதையும் சந்திக்க நேர்ந்துள்ளது.

Suicide blast among fleeing civilians, 17 killed

At least 17 people were killed by a suicide blast that went off today among thousands of civilians fleeing Sri Lanka's war zone into army-controlled areas, Defence Ministry confirmed.

Women and children are among those killed in the blast the ministry confirmed.

About 5,000 Sri Lankans have escaped from a Tamil Tiger-held area in the north of the country, the army says.

The military said the people fled after the army broke through a fortification which had been blocking its advance into the Tigers' last stronghold.

The UN estimates that up to 100,000 civilians remain in the area, shelled by government forces for months.

The Red Cross (ICRC) says government doctors working in the area are "worn out" and do not have enough supplies.
