Why is Rudd reviving Howard’s hysteria about refugees?

7pm Thursday November 12

Brown st hall (above Newtown library off King st at corner with Clem’s chicken)

Speakers: Tamil Association

Kevin Rudd’s “Indonesian solution” is the latest desperate measure in the attempt to be seen trying to stop refugee boats arriving in Australia. After getting rid of Howard and seeing the new Rudd government remove some of the worst pieces of the Liberals’ anti-refugee laws this has shocked many who hoped for real change. This meeting will discuss why Rudd refuses to take a stand against the hysteria about refugees and welcome the the small numbers of people who manage to make it to Australia by boat.

Sydney Solidarity meets 7pm every Thursday at the Brown st hall, on Brown st above the Newtown library, just off King st. All welcome.

From Ruddock to Rudd: Why do Labor & the Coaltion abuse refugees? Direct Action public forum

Tamil refugees fleeing Sri Lankan government repression are now trapped in the Rudd government's "Indonesia Solution" or in its Christmas Island detention centre. Why is there so much similarity between Labor and Coalition refugee policy? Why are these policies so abusive towards refugees?

Come along to this month's Direct Action forum to discuss these and a range of related questions.

Speakers:

* Ian Rintoul, Convenor of the Refugee Action Coalition, member of Solidarity

* Kerry Vernon, Revolutionary Socialist Party

Entry by gold-coin donation. Drinks available.
