அமெரிக்காவில் தேர்தல் ஆணையகம் அமைந்தது! 10 பிரதிநிதிகளைத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்க மே 2 இல் தேர்தல்!!

மே மாதம் 2ஆம் நாள் நடைபெறவுள்ள நாடு கடந்த தமிழீழ அரசாங்கத்துக்கான தேர்தலை நாடாத்துவதற்கான தேர்தல் ஆணையகம் அமெரிக்க செயற்பாட்டுக்குழுவினால் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இத் தேர்தலைத் திட்டமிட்டு நடாத்தி முடிப்பதற்கான பொறுப்பை இவ் ஆணையகம் கொண்டிருக்கும்.

தலைமைத் தேர்தல் ஆணையாளராக அமெரிக்காவின் முன்னாள் சட்டமா அதிபர் திரு Ramsey Clark அவர்கள் நியமிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார். இவர் அமெரிக்காவின் 66 வது சட்டமா அதிபராக ஜனாதிபதி ஜோன்சன் அவர்களின் காலத்தில் பணிபுரிந்தவர் ஆவர்.

மே மாதம் 2 ஆம் நாள் நடைபெறும் தேர்தலில் அமெரிக்காவில் இருந்து தெரிவு செய்யப்படும் 10 பிரதிநிதிகளில், 8 பேர் பிராந்திய மட்டத்திலும் 2 பேர் தேசிய மட்டத்திலும் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்படுவர். பிராந்திய அடிப்படையில் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்படுவோர் 8 பிராந்தியங்களில் இருந்து - ஒரு பிராந்தியத்துக்கு ஒரு பிரதிநிதி என்ற வகையில் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்படவுள்ளனர்.

தேர்தலுக்காக வகுக்கப்பட்ட பிராந்தியங்களின் விபரம் பின்வருமாறு:

இத் தேர்தலில் போட்டியிட விரும்பும் வேட்பாளர்கள் தமது வேட்பு மனுக்களை தேர்தல் ஆணையகத்திடேமா அல்லது செயற்பாட்டுக்குழுவிடமோ ஏப்ரல் 11 முதல் 19 ஆம் நாள் வரையுள்ள காலப்பகுதியில் தாக்கல் செய்யலாம்.

Dear Friends,

On May 2, 2010 the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) is going to have an election. Tamils all over the world will be choosing their representatives to take part in the TGTE. We Tamil Americans will be electing ten representatives, one from each of eight regions in the U.S. and two national representatives. Thus, each of us gets to vote for three representatives, our regional representative and two national reps.

We at Tamils for Obama believe that it is important for every one of us to vote. Casting a vote makes each of us a participant and makes it clear that we are represented by the TGTE and are active in the struggle to create a democratic voice speaking for all the world's Tamils. Until there is an actual, physical Tamil Eelam the TGTE must be our voice.

We know that there are many committed and capable diaspora Tamils who can fill decision-making and leadership positions in the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam; we urge them to declare their candidacy and run for office in the TGTE's democratic ruling body. Only with our best and brightest taking part can the TGTE be strong and successful.

We also know that there are other talented and energetic people among us who do not want visible or public positions but do want to put their talents to work for Tamil Eelam. Of course we want this also; organizers of the TGTE have assured us that these people will be wanted and needed in the TGTE secretariat. We Tamils must make use of all of our talents.

There is another important for us to remember: we must find ways to bring the next generation of Tamils into the struggle. This means the children of Tamil parents who were born in Sri Lanka but who were themselves born in the countries of the diaspora. This generation should be encouraged to take part in the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam.

We diaspora Tamils are by and large a sophisticated, educated, financially successful group. Our prosperity gives us certain obligations, and this is one of them. We at Tamils for Obama believe that the TGTE deserves our support. We think that among its tasks will be providing intellectual and financial support for the goal of (eventually) creating a nation of Tamil Eelam.

One of our duties will be financial support of the TGTE. We suggest that each of us should make a monthly contribution of $25 to the TGTE when (after the election) the TGTE is able to accept and use the money. We can consider this a voluntary tax paid to our Tamil national government. The TGTE will need the money to perform all of the functions and duties of any national government including maintaining a think tank to advise them on how to advance the goal of Tamil Eelam.

Tamils for Obama would like to commend Mr. Visuvanathan Rudrakumaran and his advisory committee for helping to create the TGTE. Rudra (we consider him a friend) has done advanced work at the law schools of Southern Methodist University and Harvard. He participated in the Norwegian-facilitated peace talks between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam as a legal advisor to the LTTE. We are proud to know him and are certain that the TGTE is well served by his participation. We hope he is on the ballot so that we can vote for him.

In a few places where there are concentrations of eligible Tamil voters there will be physical polling places. Most voters however will be voting online and possibly by U.S. postal mail. Some members of Tamils for Obama's office staff are helping to create the electronic systems by which part of the TGTE elections in the U.S. will be conducted.
