உலக மின்வலை தளம் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்டு இன்று கிடத்தட்ட ஆண்டுகள் 20 !

World Wide Web turns 20

பௌதீகவியலாளர் Tim Berners-Lee இருபது வருடத்திற்கு முன்னர் முதலாவது உலக மின்வலை தளம் ஏற்றப்பட்டது. ஒரு புதிய புரட்சி உருவானது. இன்று 225 மில்லியன் உயிரோட்டம் உள்ள தளங்கள் உள்ளதாக கருதப்படுகின்றது. Dec. 25, 1990, அன்று மக்கள் தமது தகவல்களை பரிமாறி ஒரு வேலைத்திட்டத்தை முன்னெடுக்கும் நோக்கோடு இது ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டது.

இல்லை இதன் பிறந்தநாள் Mar. 13, 1989 என்றும் சொல்லப்படுகின்றது. ஆனால் அந்த திகதியில் தான் பௌதீகவியலாளர் Tim Berners-Lee, தனது எண்ணத்தை எழுத்தில் சமர்பித்த நாள். ( http://www.scientificamerican.com/report.cfm?id=web-20-anniversary )

Almost exactly 20 years ago, physicist Tim Berners-Lee uploaded the first web page onto the Internet and started a global revolution. Now, there are at least 255 million active websites across all domains, according to the December Netcraft web survey.

And you may be reading this on a screen smaller than the palm of your hand.

“The World-Wide Web (W3) was developed to be a pool of human knowledge, and human culture, which would allow collaborators in remote sites to share their ideas and all aspects of a common project,” Berners-Lee said.

But it wasn’t called the World-Wide Web that day on Dec. 25, 1990 when Berners-Lee and Robert Caillaiu, a systems engineer, created info.cern.ch, which still exists. In fact, Berners-Lee had other ideas for a name: The Mine of Information and the Information Mesh were favourites.
