நியூசீலாந்து கிரீன் கட்சித் தலைவர் ஜேன் லோகி ஆக்லாந்தில் மக்கள் மன்றம் என்ற அமைப்பால் கூட்டப்பட்டு நடைபெற்ற உலக மனித உரிமைதின கடைப்பிடிப்பின் போது 21-ம் நூற்றாண்டில் நடைபெற்ற மிக மோசமான மனித அழிவு, நாகரிக உலகின் மீதான தாக்குதல் மீது முழுமையான, பொருத்தமான விசாரணை மேற்க்கொள்ளப்பட வேண்டுமென்று தெரிவித்துள்ளார். ஐ.நா. போரில் தனது கடைமையை ஆற்றுவதில் தோல்வியடைந்தது தெளிவாக உள்ளதென்றும் தெரிவித்தார். சிறிலங்கா அரசானது விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் தற்காப்புப் போரை கேவலப்படுத்தி, அரச பயங்கரவாதத்தை நியாயப் படுத்த முயல்கிறது என்றும் ஜேன் லோகி கூறினார். நியூசீலாந்தைச் சேர்ந்த ஜான் மின்டோ என்ற ஒரு மதிப்புமிகு மனித உரிமைப் போராளி வருமாண்டு தொடக்கத்தில் நியூசீலாந்து மக்கள் போராட்டம் மேற்கொண்டு நியூசி அரசை வலியுறுத்தி சிறிலங்கா அரசு மீது சர்வதேச விசாரணை ஏற்பாடு செய்ய அழைக்கும்படி செய்ய வேண்டுமென்றார். நாம் தமிழீழ மக்களின் தன்னுரிமை ஆட்சியை ஐ.நா. வாக்கெடுப்பு மூலம் ஏற்படுத்த நாம் போராடுவோம் என்றார். 
 
நியூசிலாந்தின் மூத்த நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினரும், தற்போது ஓய்வு பெற்றவருமான கேத் லாக், சிறிலங்காவில் நடைபெற்றது ருவாண்டாவில், செர்பியாவில், அதைப்போல நடந்த இடங்களில் நடைபெற்றதற்கு ஒப்பானது, அதைப் போன்றதாகும்; பெரு வல்லரசுகளின் தாக்கத்தால் ஐ.நா.வின் தோல்வி ஏற்பட்டது என்றும் கூறினார். அனைத்துலக ஊடகம் எல்.டி.டி.இ.ஐ பயங்கரவாத அமைப்பு என்று கூறுவதைக் கண்டித்தார். அவர் மேலும் கூறுகையில் இப்போது விடயங்கள் மாறி வருகிறதாகவும், நீதிக்கான முயற்சிகள் புத்தெழுச்சி பெறுகின்றன, பெறும் என்றார். அது மட்டுமின்றி தமிழீழ மக்களின் தன்னுரிமையை நியூசிலாந்து எப்போதும் ஆதரிக்கும் என்றார் அவர். 
 
நிகழ்வின் இறுதியில் மக்கள் மன்றத்தால் ஒரு தீர்மானம் முன்மொழியப்பட்டு ஐ.நா. பொதுச் செயலாளர் பெட்ரி பேனல் அறிக்கையை செயல்படுத்திய விதம் குறித்து அறிக்கையை ஆறு வாரங்களுக்குள் முன்வைக்க வேண்டுமென்று வலியுறுத்தப்பட்டது. அப்படிச் செய்தாலே ஐ.நா. மனித உரிமைக்குழுவால் ஏதேனும் உருப்படியாக செய்ய முடிந்ததாக இருக்கும் என்று தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டது. தற்போது தமிழ் மாணவர்கள் மீது நடத்தப்பட்டு வரும் அடக்குமுறையைக் குறிப்பிட்ட தீர்மானம் இது குறித்து ஐ.நா. பொதுச் செயலாளர் உடன் நடவடிக்கை மேற்கொள்ள வேண்டுமென்றும், எல்.டி.டி.இ.ஐ உலக அளவில் மீண்டெழச் செய்வதைத் தடுப்பதாகச் சொல்லிக்கொண்டு சிறிலங்கா அரசு செய்யும் செயல்கள் நாட்டில் மற்றொரு அபாயகர நிலையை ஏற்படுத்தும் என்று குறிப்பிடப்பட்டது. 
 
மக்கள் மன்ற கூட்டமானது நியூசீலாந்து செயல்பாட்டாளர்களாலும், மனித உரிமை அமைப்புக்களாலும் நடத்தப்பட்டது. இதில் நியூசி தமிழ் முன்னணையைச் சேர்ந்தோர் கலந்து கொண்டனர்.

New Zealand politicians, Peoples Forum mean action on Sri Lanka

 

UN internal review report is clear on the failure of the UN. We will not lie low. We will press for full inquiry and suitable action on those who connived at the human disaster–a blot on the civilized world in the 21st century, said New Zealand’s Green Party parliamentarian, Ms Jan Logie, at the Universal Human Rights Day observations organized by Peoples Forum in Auckland.

 

What is happening in Sri Lanka is akin to what is happening in Palestine. On CHOGM, we will do everything possible to see that countries respecting democracy do not attend, the MP further said adding that she would draw the attention of the NZ government through an adjournment motion in the parliament on the new wave of oppression on Tamil university students and youth.

 

“The Government of Sri Lanka tried to cover up its actions by criminalizing the defensive role of the LTTE in cushioning the rigours of State terror. It is a cruelty not to take action against those UN Officials who connived and played this shameful role,” Ms Jan Logie observed.

 

Speaking at the occasion, Mr John Minto, a respected human rights activist in New Zealand, said that people of New Zealand would organize an impressive demonstration early next year to press the NZ government to call for international inquiry on the crimes of Sri Lanka, including genocide.

 

We will urge the only alternative left –the right to self-determination–to be exercised through a UN monitored referendum, he further said.

 

Currently retired veteran parliamentarian, Mr. Keith Locke, observed that what happened in Sri Lanka is the same or even worse genocide than what had happened in Rwanda, Serbia and elsewhere. Attributing the UN failure to manipulation by big powers, and accusing the international media for criminalising the LTTE, Locke said things are changing now, media attitudes are changing and moves for justice will revive and thrive.

New Zealand would always support the Tamil demand for self-determination, he said.
