Tharisanam Europe Channel Launch

Tharisanam TV has taken a giant stride in its early childhood! The Tamil television channel whole heartedly supported by the Australia and New Zealand Tamil communities since November last year now has ventured into Europe to satisfy the cultural and social needs of our fellow Tamils living in the European countries. As we have said all along, our viability as a commercial TV channel is dependent on our being able to have a large enough subscriber base to offset the high cost structure of a satellite based pay television service. We could have never achieved that by our presence in Australia and New Zealand alone. Thus our carefully planned venture into Europe. The early signs are promising. However, the proof will be in the pudding once we know what kind of subscriber base we are going to be able to get.

Tharisanam TV is a very young television service designed for the Tamil Diaspora scattered around the world. It will cater for the needs of all sections of our Tamil community; from kids, our youth, mums and dads and of course our senior citizens. We have an unmistakable faith in our community, its resilience and its understanding of the need to preserve our cultural identity for the benefit of our younger generation. We want to provide a high quality Tamil Television Service that is run with rigorous fiscal discipline so that we will continue to have a viable and vibrant service long into the future. We have been thrilled with the support of our community.

We want to promote total integration into the lives of our adopted countries and their way of life but provide you with a programming style that allows you to maximize enjoyment of your own Tamil Television Service. This way we believe that we can capture the interest of the youth, cater for the needs of the working subscribers and keep those at home during the day entertained as well.

The signature channel will be; Tharisanam TV. This channel will aim to inform, entertain and educate you without altering your lifestyle in anyway. This channel will feature high quality news, current affairs and progressively increasing local content that reflects our lives in our adopted countries. News, current affairs and cultural programs from our homeland would be high priority items. We have exclusive content procurement contracts with most leading Tamil Nadu based TV services and we will offer high quality play lists based on this.

In Australia and New Zealand, it appears that we will have a single channel into the near future after the demise of Deepam TV in this region. In Europe, Mathuram TV channel will carry a pure entertainment content. We are currently showing the Indian movies based Tamil Box Office in this service. We are constantly monitoring the quality and entertainment value of this channel and we will ensure that value for money is provided.

It is important that the European and Oceania Tamil community understand that this TV Service, being run for the benefit of the community has to fund itself. Hence, subscriptions are now being sought. Once the channels are fully functional with regular programming, we would be encrypting the service so that subscribers are not disadvantaged.
